Not sure which video you saw, I think what he might be doing was 'zoning' (SF lingo  ). But yeah, Daigo's Ryu is famous, he seems to just have the edge on his opponents (even when things looks down and out).

I hate Ken Shoryuken spammers! Like you say, these guys are not good, but they catch me out as I'm still noob. Although I have been doing beter against Shoryuken spammers, by anticipating or tempting them to Shoryuken. Zangief constant spin move is another one. But there are ways to counter these guys.

Well, he's totally vulnerable after the peak of his shoryuken, when he starts to come down, so you gotta punish people who do that. Notice what kind of shoryuken they're doing, too. If they are throwing lots of Fierce Shoryukens, you know this person is seriously retarded and wants to be hit in the face. Ken is wide open for a long time after a whiffed Fierce shoryuken. The simplest thing is to just be right next to them when they land and throw them.

A Ken/Ryu who is just doing random shoryukens is totally guessing and has no idea what you are actually going to do so try to use that to your advantage. Good Ken/Ryu's only throw Shoryukens to finish a combo or they do it on reaction to you jumping at them.

Jumping at people....that's another thing you need to stop doing if you're doing it. Just stop, now. The only safe times to jump in on somebody is when you are close and they've just thrown a fireball (or other special move) and are still in the fireball 'delay' where they can't do anything. Or, after they've been hit to the ground. Watch videos of very good players and you'll see they hardly jump in on each other at all, especially good Guiles- they might spend the entire round on the ground.

I have Street Fighter 4, too....honestly there is no comparison between SF4 and SF2. SF2 is just better in every way...doesn't matter which game in the SF2 series you choose, it's better than SF4. That's not to say that SF4 is a bad game, it's just that SF2 is more of my generation, I grew up playing SF2, and I'm extremely familiar with it

But how is it better? ...simply because of "retro" factor? ...or is that a new SF is somehow flawed?

BTW I have SF4 too. I used to be decent in SF2...but I guess my definition of decent is way off

Lets play

Lag might be a problem though, but we can try

Thanks for the tips Jaylove (keep more coming). I have been throwing guys who whiff fierce shoryuken, but I feel this isn't enough a punish compare to damage done to me if I get hit.

Bought SSF4 now, some cool new characters there, making the game not really Street Fighter.

Still playing SSF4, Sound??? Getting any better?? Who's your main guy now??

I've been super geeked-up on Hyper Fighting the last couple days, I've been fighting a TON of people...I know this sounds stupid but up until yesterday I had never joined somebody else's lobby, I ALWAYS just created a lobby and waited for people to join. Well, turns out there's almost always somebody playing this game still (Hyper Fighting), I just had to hit 'Search for Games' or whatever. Stupid

I was on a roll yesterday, totally dominating this lobby of 4 players with my Ken :P (In 360 Hyper Fighting there's something called the 'Quarter match' mode where you 'put your quarter up' while you're waiting/watching the other people play, so you can have 2 other people watching and commenting on your match it's pretty cool)

Then I got my ass handed to me a few times by this really good Ryu. But you know what?? Losing in SF doesn't bug me at all, I HONESTLY feel like I learn things by losing in this game, like "Oh now I know I should never do that against this character", stuff like that...

Absolutely! It's the only game I play right now, loving it! :c Actually, it's SF4 that I play, saving SSF4 for later ;)

Treated myself to one of these:

My mains have changed to:

Guile
Balrog
Ryu

I've got to a level where I don't lose to guys who are predictable, like shoryuken spammers, guys who just mash out moves. Overall, I'm understanding the game more, links, cancels, block strings etc. There is still so much more to learn!!!

Do you bother with Trials? I find it is great for learning what moves can be combo'ed. I've done all Ryu's Trails (Medium and Hard), but struggle to use the Hard ones in fights.

Losing doesn't bother me too, it's much better to lose and learn from a good player than just keep beating the players you're better than without much test. Must admit, I hate losing to players I should beat though... If they outplay me, that's cool, but if it's due to lag it really annoys me!

'Must admit, I hate losing to players I should beat though... If they outplay me, that's cool, but if it's due to lag it really annoys me!'

yep, same here...I lost to a few players tonight that I should have RAPED but the lag was preventing me from doing things that I could normally very easily do, otherwise  I was getting hit by noob stuff like jumping roundhouse to roundhouse sweep from Ryus and Kens because of the lag, it throws your block timing off and your reversal move timing off...normally I can 'wake-up' dragon punch EVERY. SINGLE. JUMP. IN but when there's lag involved I end up whiffing and getting swept, and it's frustrating as hell I must agree  Lag really, REALLY affects SF online play to a degree not seen in many other games, because your timing for combos has to be so precise....blah....I won against a few really, really good players tonight but I also got beat by some straight up scrubs. I don't know what to think except that I should drink less before I play Street Fighter online

BTW I tried out a new tactic tonight that worked against a bunch of people....you know how every character has a couple ideal 'opening moves' just like chess??? Seriously, once the round starts, try just walking straight up to the other guy and THROWING his ass! This worked on a surprising amount of people tonight, because a lot of mid-to-high level players will begin the round by just blocking or walking backwards. Once you've thrown them to the ground you have a world of options at your disposal depending on who you are....seriously against this one Blanka I played tonight, once he knocked me down and he was within a certain range, it was OVERRR!!!!!! He would cross me up and electrocute me on wake-up every single time, until I was dead, there was literally absolutely nothing I could do...couldn't block, couldn't reversal dragon punch, couldn't cr. LK or cr. RH him out of it...he was just timing it absolutely perfectly to where I Could Not Do Jack **** and it was sick to be quite honest. I don't know where I was going with this but I love SF.

You understand me 100%! We really shouldn't play when the lag is that bad that you can't block a simple Jump in Roundhouse to Crouch Roundhouse. Sometimes I doubt myself, but then then next game, against another opponent where there is no lag I can block fine. So it MUST be the lag!

Oh yes, I have tried this and it's funny when it works

I've only just got to grips that when you get a knockdown, you have many options available. Previously, if I get a knockdown I move back to compose myself (and do nothing until they get up). Now I know you have to take advantage of a knockdown, either perform a meatie attack or bait their reversal or cross them up or throw!

A good Blanka is so very tough to fight against. In SF4, he probably has the best Focus attack. His Ultra takes huge damage. I've recently figured out if you get a throw with Blanka (bite), then while the opponent is on a knockdown, you can directly use the Ultra and the electric ball will land on them when they wakeup, if they failed to do a reversal.

Playing against mid / high tier shows me there is so much more in the game. They make you feel helpless... and it all happens so fast, it's like you're always defending.

Who are your worst matchups? I find it tough to face:

Blanka
Bison (Dictator)
Balrog

Bison's headstomp really p*ss me off

Well in Hyper Fighting it's definitely Blanka. Blanka is so quick and ppwerful and has such long reach  Him, and Ryu, since he's basically a better version of Ken.

You definitely have to take advantage of every single knockdown, in some way, never just let the other guy get back up with no penalty. At the very least I throw a hadouken at the other guy just as he's getting back up, so at least they have to block it or react to it in some way. Other times I float a jumping short kick over them, making it look like I'm going to do some kind of cross-up atttack but don't even hit them, just throw them when I land. And so on and so on.

BTW Sound how do you like that stick?? I'm seriously salivating over that thing right now, that looks like heaven, although perhaps I'm so used to the Xbox control stick now that I'd actually suck with a really nice arcade stick :P

I wish I knew SF4 better so we could talk about that game but honestly I just don't like it as much and therefore am not really familiar with it's quirks and 'secrets', at all. Like, I don't know ANY of the match-ups, I don't know which move counters which move anymore, I am just all confused with SF4   Too many things to think about/learn. Dashing/backdashing, ultras, teching throws, EX strikes or whatever they're called, Focus attacks...this is all really new, frightening stuff to me. I like SF2 for it's simplicity, balance, and just the overall aesthetic of it, there is just something crazy good about the way the game is designed...
