i started a poll  with no other comment then to post on the topic

the only reason i did that because i just wasnted to see what the members think about the short slice and if they dont think its chessy, then i will stop calling it chessy. Its simple

Hitting a short slice like Roger Federer does is very hard to pull off on a regular basis in real. That's why it's amazing when he does it.

Sadly the (short) slice in TS3 and actually all slices in the TS series have been way overpowered. Same was in TS2.
That's why you see people also stand inside the baseline returning with short slices in the WT.

Some people hit them on key points in the rallies , and they hit them when someone is far behind the baseline. In that case a dropshot would just be more in place.
The short slice is just easier to pull off. So also the reason why people decide to hit a short slice instead of a dropshot. Cause the dropshot can fail and can then be countered. The short slice falls dead. And then will be a winner.
Nothing more ugly then people hitting a shot slice winner lol. You don't see that very often in real. And the short slices are just easy to pull off.

I have a bit the same when people are at the net. There are no people who actually hit a dropvolley. People will just hit a short LT-X. Way easier to pull off. And more effective in this game then a drop volley.
But again the dropvolley needs more skills and timing.

I hit dropshots against people like Coolhand who stand 600 meters behind the baseline to return . I will even hit them in a row if he stays behind and doesnt wanna move. I know that I will miss some or he'll crush the ball and will loose the point also. But if I were to hit a short slice I would win the point. But just prefer not to cause it just looks and feels buggy in TS3.

your dropshots drive me insane :wee

Drop shots actually aren't all that hard in this game...if you practice it a billion times. I've played quite a few matches against the CPU hitting nothing but drop shots, just for practice/fun. I actually think playing against the CPU can be helpful, since there's really no 'ball-machine' mode in the game

We don't need two threads about this - since this one is less "hostile", I locked the other one.

This subject has come up many times, and I always say the same thing: Like many other shots, whether or not the slice is cheesy depends a lot on how it is used - sometimes it's simply the best choice of shot, sometimes it's ridiculously effective. But arguing about it isn't going to do you any good. You're far better off putting your time and energy into discussing and finding ways to counter it.

Whether you decide to deal with the shot, or you want to just keep getting pissed off every time someone uses it is up to you. But one thing we've been too tolerant of, and is going to change, is this ganging up on people who don't fit the mold that has been created by a select few. This includes on the ITST forums, as well as over Xbox Live and PSN.

I understand where it comes from, and I know that for many of you it's motivated by good intentions - you want to rid the ITST of any and all cheesy play. Trust me, and Chris can tell you this, I've been there before too. But there are much better ways to go about it than by harassing people and forming the cliques that we have now.

The ITST is not a private country club. We're a community open to everyone. Harassing people for the way they play, no matter how good your intentions may be, only hurts the community. I've always seen the ITST as a place where you can play fair matches, but most importantly to me, a place where the very best in the world compete. I think we all consider the ITST ranking to be the one true Top Spin ranking - not World Tour, or any other place you may play. But when you start chasing people away, and telling people how they have to play, that loses it's value.

We have our rules, and as long as someone is following those rules, they deserve to be treated with respect. I think it's time to stop all the pointless fighting, and start focusing on playing the game to the best of your ability. If you do that, it won't matter if someone throws a little cheese your way.

I've never played anyone where I feel they are being cheesy with the short slice... Sometimes they look like a drop shot. Maybe I've not played someone who utilitises this extremely...

If you are standing 10 feet behind the baseline then this shot is going to cause you trouble and I see nothing wrong in someone using this.

If someone was to short slice every shot (from both fh and bh), then that's a differently story... That would be cheesy (I don't mean cheesy as in cheating, but cheesy as in it looks ridiculous). I've never faced any ITST player who does this.

How is short slicing cheesy? If by the same token then short/extreme-angle-crosscourt risk tops should be against rules, I know that in real life any tennis player worth his salt can hit a ball that bounces twice before the baseline or sooner, so why complain? It's realistic, and it's REALLY easy to defend, just return it back L+R short slice(or any risk shot in general).

So just because some people get mad because they stand 30 feet behind the baseline and I hit a "short slice" that prods their little sensitive feelings am I supposed to change my game? It's strategically the right move... Let's be honest too, isn't hitting any risk shot still risky?

I consider short slicing cheesy when it's used as a service return, that is LAME. Although i have never faced someone who uses it as a regular shot as in spamming them and i pray god no-one does that, because i would laugh out very loud at that person.

Anyways during rallys i usually see those but i follow up to the net which gives me the point usually

may i add that Fed uses the short slice return a lot to double backhand opponents. i have to say there are quite a few people here @ ITST who use this short slice tactic a lot....which i find terribly annoying..they should have made the trigger slices a bit more difficult to hit IMO

I just played someone from ITST . But he is rather new. Hit on every point short slices from the fh to the bh etc etc. I played Lopez he played stacked. It was super annoying and here by I say it is suuuppppper cheesy. Only Santoro would be able to do this lol. But he follows it up by coming to the net. Not as a winner over and over.

Fortunately I've never come across a player in itst who abuses the slice but in wt last night I came across some guy who was taking slicing to the extreme  . It was completely unrealistic as he would hit double risk short slice shots all the time when on the offence and it looked ridiculous. I thought this was a shame as besides this, he seemed to be a great player with top serves and returns. I was so annoyed after this match but I managed to bite my tongue and not say anything to him

Right . I mean I am fine if someone wants to do it in a WT match. It's not ITST, but if someone asks me about ti I will let them know :-)
