We don't need two threads about this - since this one is less "hostile", I locked the other one.
This subject has come up many times, and I always say the same thing: Like many other shots, whether or not the slice is cheesy depends a lot on how it is used - sometimes it's simply the best choice of shot, sometimes it's ridiculously effective. But arguing about it isn't going to do you any good. You're far better off putting your time and energy into discussing and finding ways to counter it.
Whether you decide to deal with the shot, or you want to just keep getting pissed off every time someone uses it is up to you. But one thing we've been too tolerant of, and is going to change, is this ganging up on people who don't fit the mold that has been created by a select few. This includes on the ITST forums, as well as over Xbox Live and PSN.
I understand where it comes from, and I know that for many of you it's motivated by good intentions - you want to rid the ITST of any and all cheesy play. Trust me, and Chris can tell you this, I've been there before too. But there are much better ways to go about it than by harassing people and forming the cliques that we have now.
The ITST is not a private country club. We're a community open to everyone. Harassing people for the way they play, no matter how good your intentions may be, only hurts the community. I've always seen the ITST as a place where you can play fair matches, but most importantly to me, a place where the very best in the world compete. I think we all consider the ITST ranking to be the one true Top Spin ranking - not World Tour, or any other place you may play. But when you start chasing people away, and telling people how they have to play, that loses it's value.
We have our rules, and as long as someone is following those rules, they deserve to be treated with respect. I think it's time to stop all the pointless fighting, and start focusing on playing the game to the best of your ability. If you do that, it won't matter if someone throws a little cheese your way.
