A bit more from Fez on FPS

Postby Fez » Fri, 29 Nov 2013 19:06

So, I'm sorta back. Not on tour, but just friendly games (sometimes angry games). FPS issues are turning out to be quite significant for me. In matches where my fps drops to 56 or 58, I get the lack of power to my strikes. Strange thing is this though: My fps drops below 60 only with certain players. For example, Mikefare, Magav, Uchi. But even stranger, here's the pattern: It happens ALWAYS with Mikefare, 50% of matches with Magav. And 50% matches with Uchi. So the pattern is that there is no real pattern.

Does anyone know what causes this fps irregularity? I've tried everything to fix it. Rebooting doesnt always work

Interesting.

Vmoe and I could also observe this fps issue. I can't tie it to online opponents cause i'm not playing much online these times. Though i could notice sometimes my FPS "freezing" at 58, and caped there (usually my normal fps are like varying between 59.2 and 61 or so.. right now it's varying between 56.3 and 62.5, not sure what influences this).

Not sure when the fps caping lower than 60fps occurs. But it happened several times when i played windowed, captionned the game window in the windows task bar to do other things, and then grew the TE window back in focus.
To restore "standard" fps the only way then is to close the game window and relaunch TE.

I noticed this doing tests for 1.16. Usually when i play online, i always use the full screen option, never windowed. I think i could notice this 58 fps cap as well in full screen mode. Not sure why it occured (but i may have alt-tabed several times, just a guess).

Interesting subject to investigate anyway if we can find some pattern / reason wich could allow to adress a bug, if any.

Personally I've the 58,8 fps locked glitch when :

- I launch a warmup with AI and join a multi game just after ;
- I let the game in alt tab mode for a long time and finally come back to join a match ;
- Randomly, when I finish a match and join another one without relaunching the game.

Everytime I relaunch the game, the glitch disappears. And everytime i've this 58,8 issue, the game looks weird as I described in another topic.

I have four phases of FPS:

1. After a fresh boot of PC, it is at constant 60.0.

2. After one hour or so, it jumps between 60.0 and 60.1.

3. After 30 to 60 minutes more it jumps between 59.9 and 60.1

4. A bit later it jumps between 59.5 and 60.2.

Even 4th phase is acceptable, although I can feel the slight difference to 1st phase. I have never experienced FPS getting locked to 58.8 or some other weird value.

All the above is when I care about FPS during the game. When I don't care about it, i.e. having programs like iTunes in background, photo editing etc., I have some jumps in FPS from these phases: For a very short moment it is like 54 FPS or so. In online matches I experience turtles in perfect connection conditions when these drops are happening.

i can notice such phases as well. Earlyer this evening playing some sets with Isaldor, my fps were jumping from 56.2 to 62.5 (!), with nothing special running in the backround, besides some static Chrome tabs open, and Mirc. And when playing i felt something like the "Fez syndroma". Like my shots felt too soft, even with enough charge time and, i think, proper positionning (even if i did many mistakes in this area), not crisp enough, especially i had trouble hitting good crisp crosses with nadal FH, wich surprised me. Maybe it was only because i was facing a good opponent on AO surface, using Ferrer, with good spin, but still it was somewhat a weird feeling.

So i rebooted. Even launched gamebooster to get rid of any annoyances.. and then ater first launch my fps were blocked at 60.0 fps (with vsync off still). PLayed another char then (murray) so not a good comparison, but overall the gameplay felt better then.

I played a set against Ranma and i felt this lack of power. The weird part is that my fps were as usual, between 59.5 and 60.2. I didn't hit a single deep shot in the entire set.

Ah!!!
Now isaldor is on board the "lack of power" bandwagon!!
I LOVE it. It takes months, but the consensus is developing. Take that Moe, Djar-headvik!

and he even speaks of DEPTH! Isaldor, I have this happen to me half my matches, this lack of depth ALL match long!

Now think large scale, all these matches in community. It undermines the competition!

Someone fix this shite.

I always use full screen mode and I never had constant FPS except 58.8 locked mode (dissapear after restart game) :)
Maybe "almost" always because I saw that if I go to menu (or my opponent) FPS can go lower, but it is normal I guess.
Normally I have FPS between 59.5 - 60.2 (all the time game is switching between these values).
My graphic card is ATI 4850 and my desktop is 1920x1080 / 60hz (same mode in TE).
BTW I don't see much difference between 58.8 and ~60 fps. For me it looks almost always that my player is more or less but lacking power and my shots could be much more stronger. I didn't reach high level so hard to me to be sure, maybe my shots are just not at 100% clean.
Maybe there is slightly better in ~60 FPS mode, but It can be also my own suggestion (I read before, that other players can see difference) o:)

Well, I have noticed a HUGE difference when my FPS is a constant 60.0 (sometimes 60.1). If it begins to drop below that, the power of my ball steadily decreases. Even at 59.8 I reboot. I reboot PC, not just TE. Rebooting TE alone does nothing for me. It must be a pc reboot. I dont play more than two sets at the most without rebooting. My problems are solved.

Oh, and , Don. Don't play in full screen mode. Mess u up!

I never had 60.0 fps during a match. It's always between 59.5 and 60.2.

That was my situation sometimes too. Until I changed my video setting of my pc. i changed resolution to lower setting.

Also, i only play with windowed setting in TE now. If i go turn windowed off, my fps drops.

I saw the delicious number "60.0" for the first time a few days ago after doing this. But again, it only lasts for awhile and must reboot pc to get it again.
