I think we're all just super experienced players in general and no matter how 'hard' they make the serve, people are gonna have 90 percent 1st serve percentage, eventually. I used to think the serving in TS4 (post-patch) was F**KING IMPOSSIBLE but it's pretty easy to me now.

I actually like Virtua Tennis's system the best...it's VERY simple, and I know to some of you guys that kinda automatically means "Bad", but really it takes a ton of skill to master and only lets you hit shots that you have time to hit...you're never just gonna see your opponent hit crazy shots out of NOWHERE, once you are an experienced player you know for sure what options your opponent has with any shot you give him, unlike Topspin where you always have the feeling that your opponent might just pull something totally insane out of his ass...I know I'm inviting flaming but I think VT3 is near perfect :P Only problems are some aspects of online play that I won't bore you with.

Simple=better to me....let's the game become more of a chess match rather than a contest of pure dexterity. Street Fighter is not that complicated of a game when you really think about it....ANYBODY and their mom could do a Hadouken but what separates the true gangstas from the scrubs ( ) is how, when, and why they use those attacks.

LOL i remember the diving/dashing move on VT3, i mean its was a decent game but that move killed it for so many reasons.

BTW: on every VT game your player is a mix of Lionel Messi+Rafa Nadal+Usain Bolt.

No, not like button combos in a fighter, but combining flat shots with the spin shots. The buttons are already in the perfect place for it too. Examples:

The flat button gives you a simple flat shot, and the topspin button gives you the normal topspin shot. But if you press both at the same time, you'd get a topspin shot that has less spin and more pace. You could do the same for slice, as well as....

Slice+Lob for a defensive lob. Topspin+Lob for an offensive lob. Again, the standard button layout is already perfect to hit both buttons with your thumb.

And like Djarvik said, serves just need to be harder to hit, especially powerful serves. If all serves are harder, you'll naturally have to go for less on the second to avoid double faults. You might even have to hold back a little on the first serve, to keep your percentage up and avoid hitting too many second serves.

Love that idea, it would make the game much closer to real life. I don't think it's overcomplicated at all. :)
