like s/v. I keep saying it but s/v is by far the most unrealistic part of top spin 4. There is not a single pro player in the top 100 who consistently plays at least 50% of the match at net. There are defensive players, there are power players, there are versatile players, there are heavy top spin players, there are big servers, what there is not any of is s/v players.

also, no 2nd serves, no errors, zero ros errors  I have to wonder if anybody at 2ksports even watches tennis. They seem to be trying to make the game more arcadey so as to be more accessible to casual fans.

No one denies that S&V is more effectively in TS4 than it is currently on the ATP Tour. I don't think it is a problem because TS4 is a video game and 2K Czech wanted to make every style equally strong - allrounders seem to be the weakest, whereas all the setups geared towards a specific style are more or less balanced among each other (in my opinion).

Be happy that TS4 allows some variety (regarding the PS3 ITST tour), which is lacking in real tennis (both ATP and WTA with some exceptions) at the moment and even longer:

Alex4487 with an allrounder setup is quite successful, Likos with a DB setup won Wimbledon (and a couple of other tournaments), Ranma_sao won a couple of Challengers as S&V (still has to prove himself as S&V in a Grand Slam, but I'm sure he will) and offensive baseliners are also doing well (kifkaka with IR/CPS and Zooloo is using SVK/SC if I'm not mistaken).

This is true but TS4 is a tennis game not a simulation of the ATP. As someone whose memories of tennis go well beyond the Fed/Rafa era it's nice to see S&V being a viable strategy on the game.

I have to wonder if anybody at 2ksports even watches tennis. They seem to be trying to make the game more arcadey so as to be more accessible to casual fan

Of course they do, and that's inevitable... If 2k's job was to provide a service to serious tennis fans then it might be different, but they're a business who want to make and sell computer games to as many people as possible. I'd probably enjoy it more if it was less arcadey but it's not just me who's playing the game. It's not real tennis, and all things considered I think 2k have done an amazing job with top spin- sure there's things we'd all change about it but people who are expecting 100% realism are surely underestimating not only how hard it is to make computer games, but how hard it would be to sell that to enough people to justify the massive production costs.

Yeah but like i said it's a rare event. No one on tour is s/v or playing a majority of points at net, not even close. Tsonga came to the net at most 20% of the time at this yr's wimbledon and that's on grass. And he didn't s/v all the time on his serve or even 50% of the time on his serve.

And I don't care that it's not realistic it's a freaking tennis game. But ppl here are obsessed with what's "realistic" instead of what's balanced. Drop shots are not realistic, slices are not realistic, power is not realistic, etc. But then at the same time these same ppl. blithely accept s/v when no one on the real tour even comes close to playing a s/v style.

those are highlights, not representative of the whole match.
At Wimbledon this year Llodra played 4 matches where he came to net 21%, 22%, and 23% and 35% of the time. And that's on grass.

Like I said if ITST wants to make "realism" part of the rules then it has to ban s/v because it doesn't exist in the real world. Players who s/v almost all their points on their serve are not realistic. Players who come to the net the majority of the points in a match are not realistic. If people here want to allow this then they have to admit that realism is not a criteria for ITST.

OK, realism is notpart of ITST. Happy  The goal is to balance all 4 styles of play, regardless of what is happening on the ATP tour. Done.

So why IR/CPS will be called "cheessy","not realist" and S&V not?

because IR/CPS has no weakness, as it uses ir to crush baseliners, CPS to crush SVers, and both to kill all rounders. SVhas weakness in power, stamina and groundstrokes.

I watched the whole of both matches on sky sports and he came to more than 50 % of the time as the surface encouraged him to do so clearly the grass of wimby is slower than paris bercy. according to the ITF with a speed rating of 45 it's the quickest court on tour with the open second with a rating of 40 Wimbledon had a rating of 38 though montreal and cincy maybe equal to the open in speed. he are some more matches from that paris tourney to show my point

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTPGOrcj-qM

oh chip-charging is realist you ever see tim henman play or pat rafter heck even sampras chip-charged so it is a realistic tactic and so serve volleying in quick conditions as these highlights show and attacking the net can be effective it's just that most court on tour are slow and dont play fast the. heck listen to amelie mauresmo after winning wimby and her her talk about the courts getting slower and slower
