WT matchups against ITST members

Postby brazegoesmoo » Tue, 10 May 2011 01:02

Always fun to bump into a higher seed in WT tournies. At least I know it'll be a good match (or a blowout against me). And I don't feel as angry after I lose ;)

I agree.

I seem to always face another ITST member in the random WT too.

Tough and rewarding matches are the best though.

yey most of the times its a real blast to meet itst members online, like i did before with brazegoesmoo(next time i'll hold a serve as well, not only breaking :-) )
But then there are sad times too, when you meet someone from here that just plays cheese and only cheese...slice outwide serving and only crosscourt topspins with ti/md (like "t*e ti** *****r" i met before)

Just in a reply to the post above.. should your opponent slice outside then hit it back at you? or maybe not slice out wide and only hit flat/slice down the middle and then hit it back at you? Apparently anything that people find difficult to adjust to is cheesy.

wasnt about slicing, just about outwide slice SERVING...which is...imho...as cheesy as something can be cheesy...the socalled mother of cheesy playstyles

Why is it 'Cheesy'?

When I started TS4 I found several things difficult including the serve outwide but instead of blaming others I looked at what I was doing and can now deal with it/those tactics. (lol Ive said this before somewhere hmm)

I've tried this against good players and if they know whats coming you'll be getting winners hit back at you every time.. so there are ways to combat the serve.. yes its tough but there are ways of dealing with it.

or.. we just take the traditional route and moan enough get it banned temporarily and then completely nerfed so that we only get 5mph serves out wide.

i am starting to think you just don't understand what i mean...and i am sure you don't even want to...so just forget it...outwide slice serving from outside near to your own tramlines so your opponent is returning from about 7-10m left or right from the tramlines is just cool...happens in real life all the time and is not overoveroverpowered when used by someone who knows how to do it and it's not even lame when you do it all the time...every single serve...the whole match.

My fault!

Man you really making me laugh :D

You don't like it when people serve outwide to you over and over again when they see you struggle with it?? lol forgive me for saying but I would be one of them.

My point being that when did it become cheesy to play to your opponents weaknesses.. as thats all this is.. your weakness at dealing with the slice serve out to your forehand I guess?? that one right?

Not everyone has that difficulty.. I dont, so no its not 'cheesy'.

Personally I have not had much of a problem at all with wide serves, but then again they are a part of every tennis game and a part of tennis....honestly I look at them as giving me 1) More time to charge up my return and 2) More angle to work with.

You can do a wide variety of things to deal with it....control top spin deep cross court...power top spin short cross court....deep slice down the line....drop shot...(the horror!)...extreme angled cross court forehand slice...power flat shot down the line (doesn't need to be on the line but needs to be in the corner)..blahblahblah etc etc etc

you can't even play the game with psn down...

But okay folks, i am stopping to complain about cheesy playstyles, just funny how everyone defends it. I am now trying to perfectionate my lob-returns, farewell :-) It is in the game...so it can't be lame or could it?

Well if somebody is doing something that you feel is unrealistic (wide slice serves are unrealistic now, I guess), then what is your problem with perhaps trying something 'unrealistic' as a return?? For example a lob or a drop shot. I guarantee if that works then the other guy will stop serving like that so often.

In my opinion, it's not a "player weakness" but a game flaw.
Even with perfect return shot down the line you hit the middle of the court and the next shot will kill you.
Low power players are helpless against that serve 'cause even with a perfect flat power shot, the ball is like dying in the middle of the court... Not even long...
I play very fast setups (85 speed and above) and the only way I can counter that serve is by returning a short cross control top spin with a perfect timing... and despite that (that + 97 FH) ... I have to run like a fool to get a slice reach swing... Which, of course let me exposed to be wrong footed...
Yeah that's really funny and interesting....

Oh no... I'm a liar... I can also return a drop shot... If the serve is not too powerfull and if I'm not playing against a TI/MD guy.

Looking forward never playing you

Then play with more power or something. Power is important, I don't know why guys who use powder-puff characters think they should be able to do anything but sprint around and throw up moonballs... I don't know it's not my problem I don't let silly things like this really bother me I just concentrate on how I'm playing
