I could throw Grand Slam Tennis into the hat for this debate, its the biggest shame ever that it was postponed as a release on PC/360/PS3 and only came out on WII.

Ironically, all ground shots in that had sidespin, but every serve didnt!!! Yes the reverse from this game.

Did anyone play this, and experience the devious spins you could put on shots (CPU did too). OK, it was cartoony, but that gameplay along with TS4's graphics/anims/audio would be sent from heaven, to quote Sinna (!).

Its amazing overall that noone on here except Sherlock has agreed with my point today.............I appreciate I've gone overboard with countless posts, but Sherlock has just said 'it would be nice if there was more sidepsin but for now lets be glad the game is so good otherwise'...........but hold on, there isnt any sidespin in this game on ground shots to improve on in terms of 'more swerve' so that makes no sense (no offense Sherlock!!). Serves have it for HUMAN and CPU players (thank god!!) but they dont count as they have they're own agenda of shot types and luckily 2K deemed them to swerve in flight in real life and managed to implement it.

For me, to not be capable of implementing side spin in a simple sports game such as Tennis where there are only 2 players involved (or 4 in doubles), where there are less factors than a football game's pitch of 22 players, is ridiculous.

I just played the demo again and as ive said on other posts, its truly a stunning updated (TS4) from TS3 in terms of all other things, but my (and others who will agree with me unless the full game has the 4 weeks of improvements.......) expecting perfection is more than respectable considering that sidespin has been implemented in other games. Yes..............I know that implementing it will affect the A.I. aspect of the game, ie. a CPU player's ability to react to a sidespinned shot from the HUMAN player will require more complicated maths to enable it to be able to know where to reach a shot, or to respond to the expected position the shot will bounce (once curve is involved the maths do get a bit more in depth).

However to see the wishlist fot TS4 on 2k's website since 2008 has been laughable, the amount of people wanting to see irrelevant things in the game (mostly about the career aspect of the game and signature style animations, noone asked for ball animations and movement to be less than embarrasingly straight...) is quite astonishing.

Strangely, football game forums such as PES and FIFA forums have people going on (yes, like me!) about ball dynamics constantly (and guys are producing patches for both games to improve the dynamics, even though the default game has very good physics with the ball showing top/side/back spin all over the gaff (London)............but it seems the Tennis crowd who think the TS series is realistic are not quite sure of what the real life game entails in terms of the aspect I keep going on about. Maybe im guilty of being into all sports games and have witnessed the technically perfect ball dynamics in other games and expect similar in, what is it now, the 2011 of TS ??

Oh well, I will in future checkout TS8 or maybe TS9 and hopefully by then 2K's coders will have the ability to code ball dynamics in the same manner as football (soccer) games have had since 1998, and in the same manner as all other ball related sports games (including Rockstar's Table Tennis from 2007, just imagine if that had no sidespin in it, it would have been very noticable, as the real game has tons of it, as does Tennis...................except in 2K and fanboys minds.....). Its sooooo blooming well fundemental!! How can people post that they want 'Agassi's hair to be correct, and also his forehand animation', but yet they are happy to see him hit every ball STRAIGHT. Unless of course these people cannot see it..................

Anyway, thats me done on this subject, as ive said above, its a definite step forward from TS3, its just got a simple step to go to reach Tennis gaming nirvana (so over to another software house to get this game to reach that level...)

btw Djarvik, you say its not important?

And you have these (I'm guessing very well implemented) tourmaments linked to this site, and are happy to have these 'tourny' ments with a series that is a sandwich short of a picnic in terms of the advertised gameplay mechanics?

So easily pleased and cheated you guys are to play online and have balls coming at you that you KNOW will land in the obvious place, with (hehe) straight line physics circa 1986)

Full marks to you guys for putting up with this from 2K.

But also (I hate sentences starting with 'but') fair play to you, and i do (believe it or not) appreciate the game's current positives of which there are many.

I'm just finding it hard to believe (*HIC* beer related) that you guys wont also mention this lack of foresght to 2K in they're imminent 'Hey, TS4 players, what would YOU like to see in TS5?'

I will bet a milliion dollars this wont be in TS5.

I still don't care

Seriously, not even a bit. I know you right, blah. blah sidespin...but I still don't give a damn that it is not in the game.

There are so many things that are not in the game, that this one really gets lost.

Its great that you hanging on to it so tight... but you surely see that most (no, make it almost all) don't share your passion for sidespin, or lack of it.

Not sure what you meant in tournaments (1st paragraph)

OK Djarvik, you seem to be one of the clones that dont watch or play real tennis, now just see this, posted 7 hours ago on this link:--

http://www.operationsports.com/features ... oundtable/

Chase Becotte: I'm trying to temper my enthusiasm until I see what happens with the effectiveness of just juicing your created player with power, but it's hard not to be really excited after playing this demo. Everything from a more lively crowd at the U.S. Open -- when I played the game at a preview event, the crowd seemed even more lively than the one found in the demo -- to the player grunts to the tweaked controls are all really working here.

so there we have it, someone else who cant wait to mention 'Power'. How does 'Power' enhance the playing experience?

How on earth you lot can be into this 'ooooooh, i need to create my player so he can hit it with more power'..what a load of bullsh*t, in this day and age we favour strength over subtlety?

Cos this is what it is, it seems most are obsessed with power these days, over subtle shots that would be possible if sidepsin was available? i recall seeing loads of posts after TS3 was released about 110mph this, 120mph that, oh woopee f***king doo, the game allowing those speeds is just a stat to implement in the game, not anything technically, proficient.

By the way, just to point out again, side spin in real life tennis isint an option, its something that occurs on every shot whether we want it or not.

So sleep on that you guys who are dismissing my rant that this is long overdue in the 'wonderful' Top Spin

Then use a different word. I'll even throw you a few:

However
Although
Nevertheless
Nonetheless
Notwithstanding

And let's not leave out the ever-popular in ITST,

Yet :P

Anywayyyyyy,

I'd like to see side spin too, but I could also imagine why they wouldn't bother with it. It's one thing to judge a ball's trajectory in real life, where you have true depth perception and can actually see the ball spinning; it's another to judge it on a 2 dimensional plane, with lag, and where the ball is way too small to ever see what type of spin it has.

TS1 had side spin shots, so obviously they are fully capable of programming it in. I'm sure they have their reasons for not doing it again (if in fact there is no side spin, since we haven't seen the full version of the game and what effect some of the skills will have).

Yeah, if you think most ITST players are obsessed with power, then you need to do a little more browsing in these forums. There are far more topics regarding ways of limiting the power of created players.
