I could throw Grand Slam Tennis into the hat for this debate, its the biggest shame ever that it was postponed as a release on PC/360/PS3 and only came out on WII.
Ironically, all ground shots in that had sidespin, but every serve didnt!!! Yes the reverse from this game.
Did anyone play this, and experience the devious spins you could put on shots (CPU did too). OK, it was cartoony, but that gameplay along with TS4's graphics/anims/audio would be sent from heaven, to quote Sinna (!).
Its amazing overall that noone on here except Sherlock has agreed with my point today.............I appreciate I've gone overboard with countless posts, but Sherlock has just said 'it would be nice if there was more sidepsin but for now lets be glad the game is so good otherwise'...........but hold on, there isnt any sidespin in this game on ground shots to improve on in terms of 'more swerve' so that makes no sense (no offense Sherlock!!). Serves have it for HUMAN and CPU players (thank god!!) but they dont count as they have they're own agenda of shot types and luckily 2K deemed them to swerve in flight in real life and managed to implement it.
For me, to not be capable of implementing side spin in a simple sports game such as Tennis where there are only 2 players involved (or 4 in doubles), where there are less factors than a football game's pitch of 22 players, is ridiculous.
I just played the demo again and as ive said on other posts, its truly a stunning updated (TS4) from TS3 in terms of all other things, but my (and others who will agree with me unless the full game has the 4 weeks of improvements.......) expecting perfection is more than respectable considering that sidespin has been implemented in other games. Yes..............I know that implementing it will affect the A.I. aspect of the game, ie. a CPU player's ability to react to a sidespinned shot from the HUMAN player will require more complicated maths to enable it to be able to know where to reach a shot, or to respond to the expected position the shot will bounce (once curve is involved the maths do get a bit more in depth).
However to see the wishlist fot TS4 on 2k's website since 2008 has been laughable, the amount of people wanting to see irrelevant things in the game (mostly about the career aspect of the game and signature style animations, noone asked for ball animations and movement to be less than embarrasingly straight...) is quite astonishing.
Strangely, football game forums such as PES and FIFA forums have people going on (yes, like me!) about ball dynamics constantly (and guys are producing patches for both games to improve the dynamics, even though the default game has very good physics with the ball showing top/side/back spin all over the gaff (London)............but it seems the Tennis crowd who think the TS series is realistic are not quite sure of what the real life game entails in terms of the aspect I keep going on about. Maybe im guilty of being into all sports games and have witnessed the technically perfect ball dynamics in other games and expect similar in, what is it now, the 2011 of TS ??
Oh well, I will in future checkout TS8 or maybe TS9 and hopefully by then 2K's coders will have the ability to code ball dynamics in the same manner as football (soccer) games have had since 1998, and in the same manner as all other ball related sports games (including Rockstar's Table Tennis from 2007, just imagine if that had no sidespin in it, it would have been very noticable, as the real game has tons of it, as does Tennis...................except in 2K and fanboys minds.....). Its sooooo blooming well fundemental!! How can people post that they want 'Agassi's hair to be correct, and also his forehand animation', but yet they are happy to see him hit every ball STRAIGHT. Unless of course these people cannot see it..................
Anyway, thats me done on this subject, as ive said above, its a definite step forward from TS3, its just got a simple step to go to reach Tennis gaming nirvana (so over to another software house to get this game to reach that level...)
