True sim...yes or no(more contradictions by 2k)

Postby Nardy2010 » Tue, 01 Mar 2011 04:07

Ok this is not a bashing thread at all just a bit of an open discusion/preferences and opinions BUT 2K has constantly boasted about giving an all out true tennis experince, having major emphasis on realism and being the most immersive and authentic video game adaption of true tennis(it has even knocked the competitors by stating that this is a true"simulation" unlike the other games out there......

they claim to have all the signature shots of the pros in yet we see far too many discperancies for it to merely be a 'one off"

they claim to have a real feel of playing against the biggest stars of tennis, yet the water down the pros stats to "balance" them.....if i pop in a video game and face Federer,i expect him to whoop my ass!! Its no fun to be able to beat these top pros on hard 60 60,its no fun nor is it realistic for a Tomic to basically be on the same level as a Nadal. Do games water down Michael Jordoan's stats and attributes in NBA games?? Or Tiger Woods?? I understand you want the game to be user friendly and playable but that why we have diffculty settings!!!!! Down water down Fed's stats to make him" fair",if you can't beat him , then turn the diffculty down to easy

they claim to give a full and in depth career mode, yet you are severly restricted in what you can do. 1 tournament a month!! Come on now.

Now after all that will i buy the game: YES!! But quite frankly because there is nothing else out there!! As a tennis fan we are lucky to get even 2 tennis games every couple years,so i will take what i can,but that doesnt mean we should settle with what these develpers put out there. You would think given how certain sports games come out yearly and STILL manage to add more features each version, that with bi or even tri yearly relases for tennis games that these developers would go ALL out,but they don't. No shot spot or challenge feature, lack of venues, questionable player animations and a still limited roster( and im over the individual liscensing "reason" because i have recently found out that for the most part, save of a select few pros, that is not an issue.....)

Is this all because there are no womens legends in the game? (jk)

Its hard to simulate the tennis season because its so long compared to other sports. Like the NFL you have 16 regular season weeks and then playoffs. When I play an NFL game and play the full season I usually get tired after 1 season. Think about playing 11 and 1/2 months of tennis for just 1 season?

That would be incredibly long, but thankfully we have ITST here to simulate the real life tennis calender.

TS4 is the best, the most realistic tennis SIM available on consoles. You can bitch about features or lack thereof all you want, bottom line - there is nothing better.

I say embrace what you have instead of dwelling on what you don't. The time of making suggestions for TS4 is gone. The game is done. No changes.

Want to make a "How to improve Top Spin 5" thread - be my guest! :P

I would say it is still rather silly to make declarations without even having played as much as a demo yet. You can only judge so much from video previews and the information we've been given about it.
Saying that, I hope TS4 will be the best tennis game yet!

Yeah I know what you mean. But Djarvik knows alot about the Game yet and I have read and saw almost all Informations too. It's a Question of trust to the Developers you know. It's just a positive Attitude based on facts.

I was thinking the exact same thing. No one knows anything, except for what the developers want you to know - and you gotta figure a good bit of that is just what they want you to think you know. :idea

of course there'll be disapointments on lots of aspects of the game. They are not ready to give us the ultimate tennis simulation.... but honestly who can and who will?
I am waiting to try the demo. Even if it does look like a better game I dont know if it'll be better than TS3.
What i know for sure, and could bet on it, is that we'll play TS4 to death and enjoy it for what it is.
I dont say that all discussion is pointless, it's always interesting to take guesses and try to get as much information we can to imagine how will be the game, but in the end we'll just have a blast playing it for a couple of years... until TS5 :)

I would bet my balls for it and that's no Art anyway.

Ofcourse we just know what the Developers wanted us to know but they gave us alot of Informations yet. You just have to read the ITST Interview or the Developer Diaries or take a look at the Videos and you know what a Developmentplan and which Goals they had for Top Spin 4. Only because of that you know that this was the best Top Spin Development ever because they listened to the Community and made themselve real and important thoughts how to improve the Series in many ways. They gave us clearly Keyinformations. I am positive. Ofcourse we have to test it but I trust them and that's the Point.

And I don't awaiting the ultimate Tennissimulation which is perfect in all Points because there is always something to improve if it's made by humans and not by God. I am positve that it will be great and surprise a few Guys and Pessimists..

You are only right about the signature shots. They should not have advocated that. For the rest it comes down to the character creation and gameplay to make this an enjoyable tennis simulation. If the balance is there you'll get that tennis feeling.

They are just trying to give us an enjoyable career mode that is not tedious but with a lot of different things going on. Not like in real life no although one could argue that playing 4 tournaments a month isnt a real life situation either.Top player pick their tournaments they wish to play For TS5 i suggest an indepth career mode which takes you to a fully character in 16 seasons if you have no injuries. If you have you might not make it. First 2 seasons you will only be able to play against a wall.

It doesnt matter if the game is flawed anyway. Give it a few months and ITST will have figured out what is overly cheesy, or overpowered (if anything) and work around it, like the sim tour or banning 100-30. Besides most people here have a 'real tennis' mindset, and won't take advantage of physics flaws etc and play realistically.

 yeah, I messed up this one. What I mean is that Top Spin series is basically the only one on console that is close to SIM. Since there is no other choices - the winner is kinda clear.

Plus I got really annoyed by Nardy2010, especially considering spending my evening in The Garden watching Mac retire and Agassi "walk" thru the match!
