No more double trigger serves! damn!

I think it's time I learn how to serve using the right stick.
Seems I can't cross that threshold just yet :(

Right stick serving is very difficult and hard to master (for me anyway), probably due to lag. for the 1st 18 months of ts3 i exclusively stick served, and got beat by button servers who hit a couple of MPH slower but with way better angle and consistency.

sick video! That clay court rally at the end excites me like nothing else.

My minor gripe is that I wish the developers would move into the 21st century and call it a "kick" serve and not a "top spin" serve. But maybe that's just paying homage to the title of the game.

Also, it seems like it's going to be a lot harder to fully customize your players stats, which will make online interesting, since you can no longer apply exactly what you want to each category. Not sure I like the simplified "3 category" approach on this one... I feel like I'd rather just pick all the stats individually.

exactly. And the way they always insist on how hard it was to master the control in TS3 doesn't smell good either... I really hope we don't end up with a washed out TS3 for dummies.
I dont see why they say you have more different shots now because it clearly has less possibilities with this new gameplay. For exemple in TS3 we had the "normal" spin shot, the control spin shot, the power spin shot and the power+control spin shot, so that makes 4 without counting the tap spin shot.
In TS4 you can have control spin shot and power spin shot... duh that's only 2. We can do the math so either they're hiding some new deep gameplay elements (i wouldnt bet a nickel on it) or they are just lying. Dupas and co already lied about features and such before TS3 release so i guess we should not expect the great game they are hyping up until now...

in fact it is just as if 20th century Fox tell us that they'll produce a new "Alien" movie. But the previous films were rated R so lots of people either couldnt see it because of age or couldnt get into it because of the violence... So this Alien 5 will be PG-13 so almost everyone will be able to enjoy it and there'll still be gore for the fans of the first films. Ahah yeah right. You can't please everyone, it is just not possible.
For Top Spin it was still doable i think but from the last info we got it doesnt look like it. They are aiming at the "casual" player.
If you can smell smoke then the fire shouldnt be too far away.

::nods:: interesting points Tenjin... buut I'm hoping the gameplay will make up for the lack of variety in the shot selection we'll be getting. The effortless way the guys were moving in that vid and the slides were mind blowing for me (literally :yikes:)). They seem to have put more work into individual swing animations, and although the 3-way () coaching system is limiting, you still have the bonus objectives and extra skills you can apply for a little more individuality to your player.

But hopefully that's not an inferno you're smelling...

@Nick: There is a kick serve AND a topspin serve (without kick). Except for TS3 before the patch, I have never seen a real kick serve in a video game.

@tenjin: hold/release, charge hold, button tap will all be different shots for each shot type. I think the amount of variety will be a wash to be honest. I've never been all that satisfied with the variety of shots in a game, but that's sort of the nature of a sports video game.

Problem is that TS3 shot variety was shadowed by it's heavy reliance on power rating and risk.

There was more shots in TS3 than there will be in any tennis game for a while, but more then half of them were simply ineffective because of LB and power.
