Why have some threads been deleted?

Postby Mike Rotchtickles » Wed, 02 Feb 2011 18:49

I was just about to post something in that video game thread we had (you know the one where we would post our thoughts on some games, and then I totally derailed it by posting a gazillion pictures of various console systems  ) but it seems to be gone.
I've also noticed a fair amount of other threads missing as well.

Now I know Slicer had mentioned previously that a whole bunch of older threads had to be removed because they served no purpose and were just "dead weight". But I mean if you carry on doing that you risk losing some of the character and distinctiveness of this particular forum, in my opinion.

Anyway, if I may ask, what was the reason this time for the thread removals? They were taking up needed space, or what?

It looks like we lost a lot of threads that have not been posted in since the beginning of 2010 with the exception of threads containing a poll. No idea why yet...

Ive sent a message to our webmaster asking if he knows why this happened cause i cant find anything. I do know that i cant revert it. I checked the database and there is no mention anymore of this thread. Although i might be able to fish it out of an old database dump... Ill see what i can do.

As far as I know there is a setting in phpbb which deletes threads in which no one posted for a long time. Maybe that's the reason?

Yeah but that wasnt the case here. Its was just a misscommunication. Our webmaster
deleted all the old threads to keep the database size down. And to be honest, 99 procent of those threads can be deleted. I have gotten an old database dump so i will try to extract the thread in question and bring it back.
