coke4 squeezes past maximo to claim the Wimbledon crown with a 3-6 7-6(2) 7-6(3) 7-6(7)
1st Set: He starts off by holding comfortably then on my first service game he takes advantage of a mid court shot by me by blasting a winner off it to make it 0-15, i then hit a FH wide off his return for 0-30, he hits a return winner for 0-40, i save the first with a good serve but he gets into a rally on the second break point and blasts home a winner for the break. The set then starts to level out a bit, with both of us holding easily, however at 2-5 he forces me to save a set point on my own serve, then at 5-3 i manage to get a break point, however he saves it with an ace down the middle then serves it out comfortably.
2nd Set The second was was quite level, he was doing a bit better and got a few break points but most of the time we were both holding easily, i think i constantly got 15 and 30 on his serve while on my serve i could be holding to love then all of a sudden in one game he could get a break point. In the breaker he struck first by going up an instant mini break or 1-0 after a good return off my down the T serve puts him in charge of the rally and he bettered me into submission, i then get a mini break to level it and another to make it 2-1, from this point i take off and take the tie break 7-2.
3rd Set The start of this set followed a similar pattern to the second set, however as the set wore on he became more and more dominent, earning a few break points, however i was abled to fend him off and reach the tie break, where i was able to gain control after an early exchange of mini breaks and take it 7-3 with 3 mini breaks to 1.
4th Set: This set again followed a similar to path to the two previous sets, he was constantly holding reasonably easily and i was either being really pushed or holding easily, he again manages to get a few break points but i save them. In the breaker i go up an early mini break but again he manages to get it back, he gets a set point at 5-6 but after a long and messy rally i save it with a short crosscourt top spin shot, i then make it 7-6 with an ace down the T off my 2nd serve. He then faces a match point which he saves with an ace down the T, at 7-7 i get a good return in play and dictate the point before balsting a BH down the line winner. I then have a championship point, and i take it with a sliced ace down the T.
I am really happy to come through this match as Maximo really dominated during the course of all the four sets, i was just able to raise my level during the 3 breakers thanks to a bit of luck and my GS final Experience. I am really happy to have finally won a Grand Slam, and the fact that it is Wimbledon, which is in my opinion the most prestigous GS, makes it all the better. I am also happy to have won as every single oppenent was really tough, i had to fight through every round to make it to the final, i had no easy matches. I'd just like to say that I see Maximo winning a GS before to long, he is too good not too, this is a valuable piece of experience and im sure with it that the next time we play he will win.
