Music, singers, bands and more

Postby SlicerITST » Sat, 03 Apr 2010 00:13

After listening to some songs of Matisyahu Cro posted in the NBA2K10 thread i thought of creating a more general music thread. Share here your singers or bands that are a little less well known but are even more awesome then all the general mainstream stuff we are forced to listen to. Or just talk about anything music related.

My input is the german band called The Baseballs. They cover mainstream songs in a very unusual way.

Funny, after posting the comment about Matisyahu and his "One Day" song/video - I did a fair amount of research myself. Always liked Reggae music - and this guy is very intriguing. No doubt, Matisyahu has the Hasidic-Judaism-Reggae market cornered. :)

On topic...

My musical leanings are "Early Bruce." Granted Bruce Springsteen is now a pop/rock icon, but his early stuff (before anyone knew who he was) was by far his best. A particular favorite (released 1973)...

All good. Really like The Baseballs!

Another band I'm listening to at the moment - Dropkick Murphys. If you listen to them while sober, they're great. If you listen to them with five or six pints of Guinness flowing through your system, they're awesome. :P

The problem is..... lyrics are very important , so if you don´t understand spanish you are not gonna be able to appreciate all his talent.

to cover hits in that way is a great idear - and it have something !!
I like it .
my normal favorits are trance ,reaggee , heavy metal , and parts of hip hop .
sounds wired right ?
i like alot of music styles - i´m open for all music- i decide mostly i like or not when i hear the music - so its possible that i like a shakira and iron maiden song in same way

only with this music Image i have problems !!

:D You should give classical music a chance. Some of it (ok a ton of it) is very, very cool.

Which reminds me, I highly recommend 'The Planets' by Gustav Holst which is a 7 part classical piece and which John Williams HEAVILY borrowed from for his score for the 1st three 'Star Wars' films. There are passages in 'The Planets' that sound literally exactly like certain parts of the 'Star Wars' score.

:tu Does anyone have a beer I can borrow?

Also worth a listen: Goober and the Peas.

From Wiki: Goober & The Peas are a cowpunk band from Detroit, Michigan known for blending odd humor to a darker side of country music. The Austin Chronicle called them "some seriously sick individuals, and quite possibly the most exciting live act in America."

Side note: Jack White, founder of The White Stripes, played drums on their first album.
