The quake, the seventh strongest earthquake in recorded history, hit Chile Saturday and should have shortened the length of an Earth day by 1.26 milliseconds, according to research scientist Richard Gross at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif.

In addition to the days on Earth being shortened ...

(CNN) -- The magnitude-8.8 earthquake that rocked the west coast of Chile last month was violent enough to move the city of Concepcion at least 10 feet to the west and the capital, Santiago, about 11 inches to the west-southwest, researchers said.

That was some quake.

Maybe it helped some people, you know, moved their home into a different Tax district, effectively lowering their property taxes.

Wait, do you still pay property taxes if your property was destroyed? :? Serious question.

I don't know about property taxes, but WOW, Concepcion, Chile moving 10 FEET in one direction is huge- I've never heard of anything like that. Honestly I would have thought it was crazy if it was 10 inches and not 10 feet.
