I need some serious coaching...

Postby ILuvBillVal » Thu, 11 Feb 2010 21:57

Okay so here goes. I have been taking some serious advice from Rob which has helped me elevate my game a lot lately. He told me I needed to work LT into my serve game and I did and I saw a lot of results. However, it was inconsistent and I would fault a ton, so I figured maybe my serve rating was too low. So I used another guy with a higher rating and still faulted alllll the time didn't notice any difference in timing with the ratings. Sooo then finally I switched from serve D to serve A like Rob advised and said it was a more accurate serve. Now my game is ALLLL out of whack haha. I need some advice from people who either know serve A really well, or have made successful serving transitions. This has gotten really bad, I can barely make any serve now doing anything. Ugh :?

Some people watch the ball for the timing, but I use what it says in the TopSpin school: "Release the button just before he swings". I watch the racquet, and do just that.

First, you need to make sure you have the correct timing for the button release. You can do that in the School, but I prefer this: Hold LT+RT, and serve without aiming. If it goes in, you're timing is right. If it doesn't then it's wrong.

Focus on that first, then start trying to aim closer to the lines.

Well yeah I did go into the school like you said because I remember you saying it was the same motion. I mean the timing seemed fine it usually said excellent which I believe refers to the timing of the release. Whenever I would aim for sides and lines though it would almost always bring to my attention that something was wrong with the direction. And for me it's like I don't know when to start holding the direction and I don't know for how long of a duration to hold also, and if there's a point in which I need to release.

I find it hard to believe you are having trouble with your game. Your serve(in fact your whole game) seems to be on fire in our matches

ILuvBillVal - you need to stop. :angry

You need to GIVE coaching lessons and not take them

You are a good player and you will do well on the tour. By simply playing more tournaments you will improve.

Don't down play your skills. It doesn't fit you :nono

I'll see you over the weekend for MORE revenge for knocking me out from Ausi Open!
