Bounce the ball when serving PLEASE.

Postby brgerflipr » Sat, 06 Feb 2010 16:15

Just like the title says, I've been playing a lot of people who do not give a few courtesy bounces before they serve. The point finishes, the screen changes and next thing I know.........my opponent is already tossing the ball.

I like to change positions on returns and need time to adjust. Just like in real tennis, you can't serve when you're opponent isn't ready.

Thanks in advance.

Djarvik has create a topic about it, but it was for Roddick's service.

Honestly, bouncing the ball is beneficial for both sides. It gives the opponent a chance to return in the position they'd like so it's fair play, and honestly (well, for me) bouncing the ball helps me lose some nerves before the point. I used to always just rush into the point with no bouncing, but now I take some time between points and I'm playing my best tennis at the moment.

I know, but it was for roddick servers and he said just one or two bounces. This was meant for everyone. On men's the player bounces 3 times, on women's twice. I suggest we like we wait til after the first series of bounces before serving

it´s ok with me, we can not make a rule though
Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.

I agree, we can't make it a rule. Just a courtesy.

I think we should always obey any rules of real tennis that apply to the game. In this case, the rules that the returner must play at the servers pace, and that the server must not serve until the returner is ready. Also, the pace has to be reasonable.

So, if the server sees that his opponent is trying to get into position, then he should give him time to do so. But the returner should make an effort to position himself quickly, so as not to hold up the server.
