I would say try to do 'multi-tap', if you do it too early you will just sort of spasm past the ball. it can help with laggy matches though, but be careful.

Ok I keep thinking I have volleying down, but this game is insane...WHY THE F*&$ does my guy not respond to SOOOO MANY balls?? Ball after ball just flies past me (even when I'm using Ancic with 93 in volley), even though I'm pressing the button. I shouldn't have to frantically tap the button just to get it to work...wtf is wrong with this game?? Can SOMEBODY (somebody meaning ROB) tell me when exactly is the best time to tap the button? Should it be when the ball is almost about to hit you...? When it's quite a ways in front of you?? WHAT!!??? IT'S DRIVING ME NUTS!!! What makes it worse is that sometimes I can hit freakin SPECTACULAR volleys, and then other times my guy won't respond to passing shots on like 4 points in a row!! I'm fixin to choke somebody out!!!

There are a few SV players. Two are based on Ancic and Phillipousis. The new one burns, not sure about but is realtively handy, unless you play a quick player, much tougher to put the ball away.

Still depressed there is no 4 console doubles. With the good SV guys like darkpaladin, fredz, vieira, tombs, pocho when he wants to, and the others who can SV a bit, we could have had some classic matches.

We play quite a few doubles matches with a friend when hes over, its quite fun although hes terrible, and about 5 minutes into the match they always start hitting at him only

I've always liked playing s&v in TS3, but I always gave up after a few attempts. Now with the sim character list it's the perfect opportunity to focus on it and really learn it.
I'm still not sure if I would use Striker or Burns. My preference changes after almost every match. But more importantly, I still need to get the positioning right when being at the net. Lots of returns make me hit awful volleys, if you can even call those shots volleys, and the problem of the character not reacting at all is still there as well. I guess letting the RB button moving your player to the net instead of trying to direct him myself will be crucial in all this.

Also, try not to press the button too early. You can hit a proper volley on almost any return if you time it right. If you hit a swinging volley, you pressed too early.

I much prefer Striker. The reason: Serve A is the only animation I bother with for s&v. When you use A, and hold RB, it is too hard to be accurate with the stick with anything less than 90. If you mostly use the buttons, then Burns' 85 serve is fine.

I think with Burns' speed, button serving is just fine. But since I use the stick 99% of the time, I use Striker.

I hit those "swinging" volleys indeed. But also volleys that just push the ball away off my racket, which seem to happen when I push the button too late.

I started to use 100% stick serves with the shortened A serve motion and I have exactly the same experience with the serves of Striker and Burns. I will continue with Striker now that I know it's not because of the lack of speed I hit those clumsy volleys.

lack of speed doesnt help. but i can serve much better with striker than with burns. with burns if i have a 1st serve % of 75% i consider yself to be doing well, i use stick.

When playing with striker my strategy is to try and absolutely not lose serve and win the tiebreak, im not competitive enough from the baseline with him to hope to break often. With burns i can stay back to a certain extent. Although against josenylund yesterday i probably should have won, his 90 return sometimes was killing me. You just have top vary your serve as much as possible to have a chance.

There are a lot of very good volleyers in sim on ps3, in fact id say there are no TERRIBLE volleyers at all, everyone is at least competent. however, serving and volleying is a different thing altogether and not many can do it effectively, only a handful. Also everyone is fine at the net, but struggle getting there during a rally, and dont pick the right approach.
