I've become beyond tired of facebook and it's borderline obsessive fanbase, so I've decided to close my account. Little did I know how much of a pain in the ass it is to really get rid of the account. They prefer to just "deactivate" your account to make it handy to reactivate it any time! Thanks guys! For saving all the personal information I DON'T want in your hands anymore!!

Found this article: http://www.stevenmansour.com/writings/2 ... ok_account

Anyone shy about privacy concerns should stay away from facebook, I predict there might be a lot of legal/ethical problems surfacing around the company in the next couple years.

I am currently in the process of deleting every single piece of information on my account one by one, this is not an accidental oversight on their part.
I would be very surprised to learn that this information is ACTUALLY deleted as well...

I have kinda the same problem with my Myspace account. I used a non-existent email address, years ago, to start my account. So whenever I try to close it, it tries to send the confirmation mail to an address that doesn't exist.

Facebook is scary. I'm not really a fan of 'social networking' sites at all.

If I was a religious man, Myspace/Facebook/all those other sites would be the Mark of The Beast, to me. A global networking ID that almost everybody in the world has.

At least myspace doesn't have you by the balls without your email address (though I'm surprised they allowed the account to be created without verifying the email), I was really surprised to learn that closing your facebook is so difficult.

I'm going to send a mass email to all my 'friends' on facebook with my email, if they have something important to say, say it there. I don't want to hear what kind of baby food you just bought for jr, and I don't want to see pictures of your kitten every 45 minutes.

Emate,

I really agree with you man. This is the same reason why I got rid of my Myspace account.

I am seeing more and more that it is better to wait out the "wave of crowds." It seems like it is the best for me to do.

So, when Facebook and Twitter came out, I did not even try to start them up.

I did that to rhyme with Twitter and bitter.

It would have normally been "consider." 8)

I like the "t" sound on it rather than the "d."
