John, going to the dark side of complaining are we?

I disagree. Strongly.

There are literally over 100 different ways to return, starting from no risk at all, going thru a little risk, a little more risk, more risk, and all out risk.
In order to effectively return the serve with no risk, first, your return skill has to be higher then server's serve skill. Then you need to anticipate well enough and take that one step to the side, the side the serve is going to.....then release in-time. Keep in mind; kick, slice and flat serves all have different timing for returns, you need to recognize or anticipate or in worst case guess what's coming and return accordingly. Now, you can add a little LT risk by just gently and quickly tapping LT, this will lengthen your shots a bit, but will add a little chance of miss-hitting, or missing. You can then do a full press and release of LT, to add more length and more risk, and finally you can press and hold LT for maximum effect.

I'll be happy to maybe show you some trick and stuff if you wish. It is really not that bad as you put it out to be, in fact, there are only 4-5 people on whole ITST that I have trouble returning against, and that is because they are exceptional servers!

I'll be glad to help dude.

P.S. - LT is really just a "shot extender". So anytime you would like to place the ball deeper or shorter, you have a chance of hitting long or hitting the net. That is the risk you take. But this is a necessary risk.
Do you want your returns to be deep close to the lines? ....well, then you have a risk of hitting long. It is really simple and works very well.

Scratch Aceusam.

Xbox
Rob, Norberto, Setheleh

PS3 tour
Oshiee (hands down best serve on PS3 and Xbox I have seen) ccbrwn - WS

I have played Aceusam twice only, and even thou I didn't break him I felt I could read his serve just fine, had plenty of break points.....with a couple of more matches I would break him, I think.

Your serve as of late Coolhand is not far behind, but it is what you do with my (and others I assume) returns what makes you hard to break.

oh and Amazing Matheja is in a different league as far as serving.

i think its better to have the return in the middle of the court....it gives your opponent less angles to work with....too many people anticipate the return down the line or cross court, but when you hit the return right back to your opponent they dont know what to do with it a lot of times... try it hit it right back at them but deep then try shallow...the most important part about return is switching depth just like in real life

Yeah this is true, you can really throw people off with a centre return, and sometimes a body serve, especially the uber-circle button wizards who clatter a angled return deep into the opposite corner.

I just played the cooler618, lost 3-6 6-7. Really tough match, he's a great player and well deserved the win.
Set-ups were:

thecooler:
FH 79, BH 69, Serve 82, Ret 60, Voll 50, Power 90, Speed 75, Stam 55

k-par:
FH 69, BH 90, Serve 78, Ret 80, Voll 50, Power 79, Speed 64, Stam 50

I definitely felt i had to risk more with these stats. I'm not a big risker normally and struggled with that. The cooler is excellent at it, along with his 90 power he sent 48 winners past me (compared to my 21). Maybe my lower speed didnt help there either. Fun match to play though!

I understand that hitting down the center is good SOMETIMES, but never on every single point.

And djarvik, the difference when I complain, compared to a lot of others, is that I'm just talking about the game itself, I'm not trying to make it a personal attack on anybody or their characters that they choose to use...anyways I'll try to keep some of that stuff in mind.

Dude I was joking. I figured I got to use that chance, you don't give many

But seriously, I'll be glad to help you improve your returns.

I had a feeling you were joking but I just want to make it clear what I'm actually complaining about....to be quite honest I wrote that after I lost my SIM match, which was very close. I was furious :D

PS3

djarvik - TomBs
R32 6-3, 6-1

It felt really good. I liked our match. Tom played SV, so it is not telling a lot of how the baseline game will feel. I felt thou that he was always in the "match", saving break points and constantly getting to 30 on my serve. When he did get to the net, it was almost impossible to pass him, so the key was try to keep him away from there.
