WIMBLEDON

Postby Chederer » Mon, 27 Apr 2009 20:42

WHY PLEASE ANSWER MY QUESTION

WHY DID THEY SLOW DOWN WIMBLEDON? US OPEN IS FASTER THAN WIMBLEDON--RIDICULOUS--SPEED IT BACK UP---THEY DO THIS SO THAT NADAL CAN MAKE IT FURTHER IN THIS SLAM---WHY? I HATE THIS!!! NOT THAT I HATE NADAL, BUT HOW FAR DID NADAL MAKE IT IN THE US OPEN? THE SEMI'S RIGHT? NADAL WOULDNT EVEN MAKE IT TO QUARTERS IF WIMBLEDON WAS AS FAST AS IT USED TO BE!!! WHICH THEN HE WOULD NOT BE #1---BUT ANYTHING TO MAKE MONEY RIGHT?

I think in the Sampras years Wimbledon got a bad rap for being the least entertaining slam because of how quick it was but they have gone way too extreme with both how much they have slowed it down and the bounce being much higher than before. I mean Hewitt v Nalbandian final in 02 was a bit ridiculous., but on the flipside we have 2 of the best finals ever in the last couple of years.

The whole grass court calender needs a major overhaul, I can't believe players have not pushed for it more when you have good clay courters able to pile on the points and the cash for 3 months and good attacking players have just 3 weeks on the grass.

Nadal can win also on fast courts, Australia is just the last example, and he has won lots of Masters Series on hard, and i don´t think english people want Nadal to win in his own country, why?.
As far as i know Wimbledon is played still on grass, and for me it´s still fast.
I don´t understand your topic  , nowadays Federer can´t win on any surface, it´s not a surface matter.
I can almost assure you that Nadal will win the US Open this year, the next one or whenever but he will do it, he has shown to the world that he´s able to win anywhere.

I really don't think it is the speed of the court that is the issue as far as Nadal is concerned it is how the court takes his spin. Fact is Wimbledon 10 years ago just would not have given his shots the same effect.

I don't really think they slowed it down to help him, just to try and make the matches more entertaining, result 5 fantastic years of Federer brilliance at SW19!

aussie open is a fast court, but the ball bounces high.....a good fast court IMO is a when you hit a hard ball it continues to drive through the court and stay low.....wimbledon used to be known for weird bounces and always having to be able to get down on your shots....since when is wimbledon about baseline play? well....i guess it is now....nadal will never win US Open IMO Djokovic, Murray, Tsonga, and Del Potro will have the upper hand anytime they meet up with Nadal....that is just MY OPINION!! Federer is my favorite this year in the US Open!!!

If he is going to find his best form anywhere it will be at Wimbledon, the serve just needs to start clicking back into gear.

I think he is playing in Halle Germany before Wimbledon as normal.

this is so true..its ridiculous that grass specialsts have 1 month to play in grass, but clay court specialists have 3 months, 3 masters 1000 (correct me) and roland garros...for example nadal turned out to be unbeatable in clay so he got one querter of the calendar assured

I agree. They need more grass court tournaments through-out the calendar. I think the limit it because of the up-keep of the grass? It is too costly! I studied in accounting how much you can claim on taxation for just having a golf course!! Unbelievable. The only thing about tax law is that you learn a principle and GAAP or tax law changes the following year.

You really have to like that stuff to be willing to do tax accounting!

Who are the grass specialists for you?, i thought Federer and Nadal were the only specialist, 3 straight years playing the final in Wimbledon!!!!. What else do you want from him mate?. For most of Federer fans is hard to admit it ,but the fact is that Nadal has also become a grass specialist like Mr Federer.
Last year Nadal didn´t lose one single match on grass so......., I don´t know but maybe they should play a tournament on ice to beat Nadal....and i don´t know what will happen
Sorry if i´m not neutral, but results are there

Yeah, but the thing is that is hard to find a good serve&volley player nowadays, I still remember Ivanisevic,Sampras,Krajicek...., i mean if you make the court faster most of the players would still play from the baseline.
BTW when the court was FASTER players like Andre Agassi or Hewitt ( baseliners) got the title, so it´s no guranteed that Federer would win again if you make it faster, of course he´d have more chances.
