Defensive Lobs

Postby Davey CaRnAgE » Mon, 27 May 2013 11:56

Hey guys,

I'm new to the tour so I'm just wondering about the use of defensive lobs.

I don't really use them at all, but I think I read somewhere on the forum that they aren't allowed as they lock the opposing player in place.

I just played Airton111 on WT mode, and he used them near enough EVERY point, including as serve returns.

Can anyone clarify what the rules are with these and whether they've had problems with Airton111 using them excessively on the actual tour?

Many thanks

Dave

I don't think it's forbidden, but it's considered as Cheesy play by the TS comunity so harldy anyone uses it. Every player knows about this so certainly airton, so, strange message..

Lobs aren't forbidden and people can technically use them whenever they want no matter how cheesy. There is a limit on drop shots and if someone uses them excessively you should report them to host. And when airton plays someone that knows the rules and will report him in itst matches if he breaks them...he follows them.

Lobs are not forbidden, but abusing them is cheesy and cheesy play is forbidden. If someone abuses lobs in an ITST match, please report them. If they abuse them on WT, then that has nothing to do with us.

That's the first time I have heard that, but what's the itst definition of abusing lobs?

My personal definition is lob returning against a non serve and volley player, and lobbing baseline to baseline in such a way to lock the other player in place and force them to wait for the ball to bounce.

We usually apply common sense to our decisions, so in my book if a player hit a defensive lob as a return, only once in a match or twice that's not abusing, on the contrary if the guy uses that shot as a tactic during the whole match or when he's in trouble, then that's a cheesy tactic (i don't pay attention to cheesy shots but to cheesy tactics) and you can report to the Tournament Host.
Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.

I played against davey in RG pro Tour. I had Borg and he accused me of using defensive lob while i was only using top spin control shot. He told me his player was locked a few time, which seem very strange to me.

Thats normal sometimes the player is locked and you cant bring him in good position to finish the point. That dont means automatically that your opponent played a lob.

Sometimes it is not easy to see the difference. In the beginning of the rally...lob or top spin? :c

And the shot on ur video at 7 sec is obviously a top spin shot. Because it's very fast, lob are much lower.

And i had Borg which is great for top spin shot!

Yeah you are right its a top spin.
@Davey i know dj morgancooper good and played him often and i have never seen him playing a lob. Never! Can that be that airton also played top spins and you thought he played lobs?

Its a shame you had to post in public dj, as I had kept this private and followed procedures.

Burna, Airton definitely did, but that was WT so it doesn't matter, just used it as an example. From what I've read/heard, it's not that surprising with him anyway.

I'm certain dj did too, because I've been playing TS4 since it came out and I do know the difference between a control topspin shot and a lob. On top of that, I have a created player with Topspin Invasion and FH/BH 79 (only 1 less than Borg), so I'm well aware of how that shot looks/the effect it has on the other player.

As I said earlier in this post though, it's a shame dj couldn't keep things private as I tried to do. I've no intention of arguing about it on here and I've left it with the tournament host who told me I'd done the right thing by finishing the match and reporting the score properly.

True, but that was regarding a WT match and was also for rules clarification.

Plus I'd already read that many other people had/have issues with him.

That may have been the case when he played you in the past, but I didn't feel he was fair in our match so I followed the reporting rules to the letter. May I request you leave it there now please.

It's a shame u report to the host Immidiatly after our match without asking itst player. U didn't even say gg to me as far as i remember while i congratulated you.

"Plus I'd already read that many other people had/have issues with him."

Many ?? are u serious ?? !!! Only one complain, daxter1975, because i made some lobs when he was at the net (he has 100 volley as far as i remember).

Sorry but u played three match in there while i played the best, shocase burna sebastianhu brushedbbj swifty dsl sinenobe .. and no one complain.

And despite my explanation and the fact that burna (against which i am not even sure u would have score a single game with his Federer) told u i always play fair, u still think i am a liar and played cheesy.

U know, if i wanted to won easily i wouldn't use defensive lob, i would play with Agassi.
