Roddick's serve and volley's stance and animation is really hilarious by the way.. First time I used it I thought I got some kind of issue in my game..

Not a great fan of EA sports post-megadrive era. Hopefully this is good but I don't have too high hopes for it. EA games seem to be all about licenses and slick presentation, and to be honest i really don't care about any of that stuff. If the gameplay is spot on I'd be perfectly happy for there to be no licensed pros whatsoever let alone racquets, clothing etc.

I didn´t like EA until the new generation of FIFA. I really hope they can produce a game in the same level. If they keep the quality similar to the football franchise, the game can become a blockbuster.

I think I know the reason: In GST 2 there will be legends matches or historic matches and this is from Wimbledon 2009. It is exactly Federer's outfit from Wimbledon 2009 and back then he still had that racquet:

from a business standpt EA would have no reason to spend big on tennis, just like 2k has no reason to go all-out with TS. tennis sales are miniscule when compared to those of soccer/futbol. Its simple economics.

and this is why ill reserve any excitement until i see actual gameplay.

Precisely.

If EA can neglect Madden like they have with an exclusive rights deal, they have no reason to enter such an established market with quality games such as TS4 and VT and really push the boat out.

This seems, while promising (as a teaser) a showcase for their financial muscle securing the Wimbledon rights as opposed to a statement of intent to make the best tennis game available.

I'm hoping for the best, but I'm not too excited right now.

As I said in an earlier post, EA tend to ignore the details which 2k have done a great job of addressing in TS4, and their fan relations are absolutely abysmal.

 sorry, but to whom? 3.5 tennis fans around the world?

GST one was a fantastic game. Great engine. You need to look past the graphics.

I hardly think EA would want to waste time making a terrible game that will not sell when entering a New market. If anything, this will be their first and only shot. They will give it their semi-best and if it works - franchise is born and then money making starts. If it doesn't work - they are out.

In business, your first shot is always your best shot.

tell that to EA lol

Those guys just nickel and dime and rob their customers...

I'm hoping, just not expecting.

I'd rather see TS4 updated and patched.

Damn Rob, we need to find that thread and claim the goddam idea!

Basically, it would work similar as serve but deeper:

- Down-up for flat shots. The faster you do it the harder the ball is and the longer you hold it up the deeper it is. Its a small timing window, sorta down-up-hold-for-split-second, release. Hold too long - you will hit long out, too short you may hit the net.

- For top spins you would rotate counter-clock wise, with the same principle. Faster rotation more spin but slower ball, higher, jumpier of the bounce. Slower rotation less spin. Too little spin and its long, too much spin and the balls are short and easy to attack. over 180 degree rotation creates a lob, hold the button after the rotation for depth.

- For slices rotate clock-wise. Faster rotation, more spin but risky, slower rotation could shank the ball. Half rotation for drop shot.

I can break it down on more details :D

I think this is a single best idea for control eva! And the best part? ....you can still design regular control for buttons. Have an advanced mode and a SIM mode.

Can I get a 8) now?

This sounds great but my biggest complaint would be that the majority of people would hit every ball flat because the up/down motion is the easiest to do. Plus it's easier to move the right stick up and down quickly than it is counter clockwise.

And lastly, I play serve stick berserker and I can tell you I bought a new controller around a few months ago and my right analog stick is already wearing out. It's pretty loose from pressing it quickly to get more power.

List of things i want from Grand Slam Tennis: (feel free to add)

1.) more risk and more errors. Make a differentiation from regular shots which are safe but less effective and riskier shots which are very effective but much harder to pull off. (djarivik's analog stick solution sounds great)

2.) Better balance between serve and return.

3.) BETTER ONLINE GAMING FOR PS3!!!!!

4.)Less loading screens!! and shorter loading times.

5.) game commentary that actually exists and isn't false advertisement

6.)Vid. capture and upload (I know this exists with other games so I know it's possible).

7.)2nd serve (pipe dream i know)

8.) Balancing updates cuz no game ever comes out perfectly balanced without any exploitable glitches.

Seing that interview and his last answer (about release date) I would guess that GST2 will be released in the same time as the US open 2012 to make an impact on the USA market. The only thing that would suggest otherwise would be that it's the last Grand Slam of the year, not much momentum for marketing after that...

Any thoughts?
