How much did those tickets cost mate? I'm thinking of a trip to London or New York next year to watch either Wimbledon or US Open.(I may also buy myself a PS Vita when i arrive over there =P) It's going to be my first time watching a tennis tournament in a tennis stadium and a gr8 first step imo with a GS opening :))

Nadal is asserting his independence from his uncle and coach Toni Nadal, the man who pushed him to the top of the tennis world. Now, tentatively, he's pushing back.

"I'm not a kid anymore," Nadal said in an interview this week. "Before when he says something, I will do it, for sure. Now I can answer him. Sometimes he minds, but that's what there is. At the same time, he has to accept that I'm 25—I have more opinions than before."

I can say more things, we can discuss more than before," he said. "But I still have big respect for him. It's never going to change." Nadal said his uncle's tactics would have failed if they were not family. "If other people from outside say to me the things that he told me, it's going to be difficult to keep working together," he said. "I saw him a little bit more like my coach than my uncle, but at the same time I love him like my uncle."

Nadal also knows their arrangement is difficult for his uncle, too. "He has three kids, and sometimes he's tired to travel around the world all the time," he said. "You never know what's going on in the future." Toni Nadal was unavailable to comment.

About Djokovic

For Nadal, "this is the first time something like this has happened to him," said Brad Gilbert, the former pro and coach. Like many tennis observers, he's long marveled at Nadal's maturity and mental fortitude, and wonders how Djokovic managed to get inside his head.

"[Djokovic] is the only player where I see Nadal pressing," said Pete Sampras, the former No. 1 and winner of 14 Grand Slam titles. "It's the only time I've seen him actually look a little puzzled and frustrated."

"To beat him I had to be perfect, mental and tennis level, and I wasn't," Nadal said. "I'm happy about my year, not happy about my matches against Djokovic."

Nadal is unaccustomed to such emotions. He has won 10 Grand Slam titles, won each of the four Grand Slam titles at least once, won a gold medal, reached the No. 1 ranking and mastered Roger Federer, perhaps the greatest player in history. He won his sixth French Open title in June and has lost just 10 matches in 2011.

The discipline required to do this came from Uncle Toni, to whom his tennis career was entrusted by his parents when he was three years old. Toni's stern and exacting methods are detailed in Nadal's new memoir, "Rafa," co-written by John Carlin and released this week. According to the account, he would smash tennis balls past his nephew's head when he wasn't paying sufficient attention, or call him "fourth rate" or a "mummy's boy." Sometimes Nadal went home from practice in tears. Uncle Toni's rules were not to be ignored: Nadal said that to this day, he has never thrown a racket in anger. "Never, not in a match," he said. "In practice, for fun sometimes. Just joking."

That is some INTENSE shit...

Not surprised he's such a badass on court, even less surprised he's admitting to some psychological issues off the court now.

Apparently the players are saying the courts have been slowed up too much this year.

They resurface the courts every year, if I'm not mistaken. Apparently, they used a rougher surface this year.

More sand in the paint, more layers of paint and also the direction the way the paint is applied can apparently all have an effect. Apparently even Djokovic was saying it was slower and the Americans were not too impressed.

That's nonsense, they're penalizing M.Fish, the only american, in my opinion, that could reach last rounds.

Hmm, I knew about the sand and the layers, but I never really thought about the direction the paint is applied. Makes sense though.

The courts could very well play faster as the tournament progresses though, so it may not be too bad.
