yes absolutely, Federer played well but Tsonga played like he did in Australia years ago, and after the match he said " Everything was in"

Fed made 11 errors .I knew something like this could happen and it did fed is done as now to win the us open he has to beat tsonga,Murray, nole, delpo, nadal as for tsonga he has a winning record against No-Djoke and has does not fear novak so tsonga just beat fed so he will believe he can do it. Tsonga to win wimbledon?. Peeps have been saying fed may never win a slam again they might be right. I love tsonga but I didn't want his breakthrough to come at the expense of fed. The irony 10 years ago fed lost in the quaters.

As a Fed fan, that gives me hope for the next couple of years. Its not that he was poor, just outplayed by a man who found a hot streak.

Do you think Fed should start considering being like Sampras was towards the end, and becoming more aggressive e.g. more Net approaches?

as a tennis player myself, i find the S&V game very physically demanding, but being more aggressive and trying to end the plays at the net after hitting a good FH could be a good idea

If Tsonga wins then they can talk but since his breakthrough in Australia he has failed to back it up so it's a bit early to be thinking he is knocking on the door of the Top 3.

Federer played well, Tsonga played better end of. I'd rather see that than Federer going out meekly, he is still in the mix but it's getting harder as it should be.

Anyway enough about that, how will Tsonga react to the big win, his endurance has been suspect but Djokovic has yet to find top form.

I think a Nadal v Djokovic or Tsonga v Murray final would be best, otherwise I feel the match would be one sided.

that loss has left me feeling flat I dnt knw what should now expect from fed i so confident hen would win and he didn't but all the same insupport him to the end I guess we should lower our expectations of him . And I will root for tsonga. I was on fed's website and most fans who have backed him all season have lost faith.

I still believe that Federer can snatch one or two slams in the next two or three years: He can still be in the zone as he has shown at Australian Open 2010, WTF 2010 and French Open 2011. Today he wasn't at his very best and didn't seem as energetic as he was during the French Open, but I think the level was still very good, good enough to compete with the remaining players and maybe beat them - Tsonga was just serving and playing unbelievable on all those 0-30 situations he faced and he did not crumble.

Federer was better in about every stat except for aces and winners (but very close there): He served higher percentage, won more on 1st and 2nd serves, won more receiving points, less unforced errors, won more total points! Happens quite often that Federer loses an important 5-setter although he won more points in total (Australian Open 2009 final, Australian Open 2005 semi final come to my mind).

If Tsonga continues to play like this he deserves to win and I hope he does, but I'd also like to see Murray finally winning a slam - the Queen's Final between them was entertaining I wouldn't mind seeing a rematch on Sunday.

For thos who are interested about statistics, is Tsonga the first player to beat Nadal and Federer in Gran Slam ?

If not, he's at least, the only one who have beat Djokovic Murray + Nadal and Federer in the Gran Slam.

Federer's earned the right to continually f**k up for like 5 years straight, IMO

I'll always be a humongous fan of his, though I'm extremely dissapointed in his loss today; this shouldn't have happened...

Beating one of them at a Grand Slam by playing one outstanding match is not that important - these days you have to beat at least two of them in a row to win a Grand Slam. Tsonga has to beat three of them to win Wimbledon. Beating Federer, Djokovic and Nadal/Murray in a row - sounds impossible to me, unfortunately.

Del Potro is the only one to have beaten both Nadal and Federer to actually win a Grand Slam (US Open 2009, although Nadal was injured).

nadal gets injured to often for it to be an excuse anymore since most of his injuries are self inflicted and as a result of his playstyle.

to me that's great, he has to be focus in his career, nobody remembers how many Davis Cups won Bjorg, Connors...., tennis is an individual sport.

No, they remember how many their country won...I believe that's the point. Nobody remembers how many gold medals Michael Jordon won at the Olympics in basketball, but that doesn't change the pride Americans had in the dream team.
