Top Spin 4 Matches Run Way Too Long!

Postby PCFitnessDotNet » Sun, 10 Apr 2011 20:02

God forbid you are forced to go 3 sets, these top spin 4 matches are way too long... something needs to change, it's stupid. Our match lasted well over 90 mins, ridiculous.

Instead of 2 out of 3, 6 6 we should play 2 out of 3, 3 3. I don't know about the rest of you, but I got shit to do.

Definitely not - I want to play realistic matches with best of 3 sets and best of 5 in the slams (6 games). Some are long some are not. It depends obviously on the quality of your opponent. White washes can take 20 minutes...
Also a match against a serve vollier can go extremely fast. My set with rockets was 15 minutes or so and it went to 7-6.

I totally disagree with that suggestion too. The WT matches are played in that format and it's great for that but for what we're trying to do on this forum, it's too oversimplified. One break of serve in that format and the set is almost gone. At least with a 6 game set you get time to try to figure things out and work your way back into it. Shortening the sets to 3 games takes away a lot of the tactical element and thinking nature of tennis I feel.

And matches don't really take that long tbh. They are significantly shorter than their real life counterparts. On average a set lasts anywhere between 10-20 minutes which is fair enough. But if you get a really close set that goes longer, well then it should be thrilling. That's part of sport, you won't always get away with winning quick.

I'm liking this realistic format! :)

I agree we should keep the 3*6 sets.

But if playing 5 sets take 2,5 hours we might have to be forced to evaluate this for Grand Slams... I dont like it as well but it doesnt sound viable to me.

The ITST is a sim of the real life atp/wta tours. It's fine as is, but I agree with slicer abt the grand slams...might be worth looking into come Roland Garros.

Well, I just played a best of 5 vs Agassi on Very Hard using a Defensive Minded player. I won 6-1 6-4 6-0 and it took 1hr and 2 mins. Evaluate that how you will. Also, was at US Open.

Definately keep the 3 sets, 6 games. Now grand slams on the other hand. I like the idea of playing a long hard 5 set match, but scheduling for that might be a pain in the arse. In one thread, a match lasted over 3 hours. Seems a bit long, but that could have just been a rare occurrence. Will have to be more testing to see if it happens more often than not.

But if itst were ever to change how the slams are played, i believe you need to keep the final best of 5 sets IMO.

Make grandslam matches 3 sets and final 5 sets. Problem solved.

A 5 set match could be long and hard to schedule for, but some people say the exact same thing about the real life grand slams. I disagree, and I think it's better to have a long 1.5 or 2 hour match. If the match is really close it might make it to 2.5, that's still only half as long as the really close real life matches.

if you dont have the concentration levels and the patience to play a 3 set 6 games or a 5 set 6 games match then dont play ITST, this sit mimics the real thing and another thing sometimes it takes a set to work your opponet out ive many of times lost a 1st set and then come back and won the match,,, 3/3 5/3 suck

lol ok listen, for me, a 90 minute match has nothing to do with concentration levels or anything else of the sorts, for me, it does have a lot to do with time management and being able to open up from what use to be a 30 to 40 min block of time for a match or less. now a 90 min match in top spin 4 is becoming common. don't get me wrong, i am all for the realism and the sim of online tennis, but in my life, besides being a gamer, at 43 i do have many other obligations that i need to attend to in my day and for me it's business 7 days a week. i know there will be some of you who can relate to this and some that cannot. my point is, if some of us know that some of these itst matches can and will run into the high double or even triple digits they might think twice about getting into it in the first place. just something to think about since one of our goals in itst is to build this community for everyone, not just the one's that have the time to do it.

Even though I also think our match yesterday took very long, I actually enjoyed it. At the end I threw the controller and the batteries were flying around the room (controller still works though lol).

I think it was a wonderful match, and never did I have the feeling it took toooo long. But I understand your point of view, if you have other responsibilities, then it's harder to time manage your matches.

I can definately relate to this. I have very little time to play as it is now but will try to play some tournaments and if it takes up too much of my time I just wont play until I have time again.

The quickest method is just hold your serve and get a mini-break during tie-beak. That could end the match within 30 mins.
