Challenges?

Postby bluwaters » Wed, 02 Mar 2011 17:21

Does anyone know if they will be introducing the Challenge system into Top Spin 4? I didn't see anyone mention it yet, so I am sorry if it was brought up before.

Unfortunately I don't think there's any evidence to suggest that it was included. Probably in the next game.

I don't think a challenge system is necessary. I believe it was attempted in Smash Court Tennis and while it looked cool at the start, the novelty quickly wore off and it became kind of pointless.

Why have a challenge system when you already have something better - a computer that never makes a bad call.

Unless you really think it's better for the computer to intentionally make bad calls, just so you can try to challenge it.

This is what I'd favor. ^ Add some intrigue, argument, and more strategy to the game (Do I use my challenge now or save it for later?)

No offense to anyone but challenges in a tennis game is not a bright idea just for the reason Rob stated - we have something better. It's there in real tennis because people make mistakes.

That being said I have to admit that when my brother and I played SCT3 it was a fun addition in that one match. But just because we like messing with each other. If it would have been a ranked online match against some unknown player I would have totally hated it.

Absolutely agree. A Challengesystem is Bulls-h-i-t in a Tennisgame.

@Rob LOL :) Computers making bad calls!!! hahahaha
The reason I was asking is because i think it would add even more authenticity to the game.

@Mack Smash Court Tennis 3 has it and it really is a good addition because sometimes there are challenges that are there. :)

I guess we can just wait and see what they have done... :)

A challenge system is basically pointless but i would like it nonetheless.

I think we are all for a sim tennis game and i think a challenge system has its place in such a game.

Of course it would be the cpu who has a higher percentage of error the closer it is to the line and the faster the ball hit the court, that's it. It is some kind of "human error" emulation.

It wont make the gameplay any better but it would add some drama during the matches. To know that the ball was in and was called out when you don't have any more challenges left would be quite dramatic

I agree with your point :)
Just more reasons for everyone to start throwing their controllers at the TV.

What if this was match point though?

Again, it would be Bull-s-h-i-t.

Or du you wanna lose a Match because of the CPU?

It makes no sense in a Tennisgame. Sim or not Sim, it makes no sense.

Challenges has nothing to do with sim in my opinion. Sim for me is only related to gameplay. Challenges is just cosmetics. It only adds stupid errors that shouldn't be there and a ton of frustration.

I'm glad 2K have ignored this feature and I hope they continue to.

of course on match point it would be quite a delicate moment to deal with lol

i can understand why people wouldnt want it in the game though.

But losing important points or even a match because of bad calls is happening very often in real tennis, and like it or not, it's part of tennis now.

Also dont forget that such an option could be turned off if that makes problems for itst.

For me losing a match while playing on my console is not so much of a big deal. I think we all have our own life when we turn the console off and its not a top spin match that will ruin my day...
