The stick looks fantastic in real. With regards to how it plays, it certainly takes time to get used to, you need to be motivated and patient. Bare in mind, I have never used a joystick before (apart from occasional SF2 play in arcades as a kid). It took me a good few weeks to get to the level I was with a pad. Initially, you will get frustrated, lose to scrubs and lose a lot! You can't do your special moves, you jump when you simply want to walk, you can't block because you either crouch or jump, your right hand can't find the correct punch / kick buttons. The list goes on etc

Once you start getting used to it though, it is a lot of fun. Your left hand solely controls the movement, right hand solely for punches / kicks. Because of this, you can perform more difficult moves easier. Better rhythm with punches / kicks, to connect combos. More control on tapping moves (like Hundred hand slap etc). More potential overall. Saying that, I have played guys who only use the pad, and they can do everything on it!

I wish I knew SF4 better so we could talk about that game but honestly I just don't like it as much and therefore am not really familiar with it's quirks and 'secrets', at all.

Don't give up on SF4 though. I think it is so similar to SF2, if you play it with the same approach, you'd still do well. You are right, there are many additional things dash, Ex moves, tech throws, ultras etc. but they really are not as complicated as they sound. They seem complex at first, especially if you take it all in at once. After awhile, these new things are not difficult to execute and to understand. They add another level of strategy to think about.

Good lord there is this guy on my friends list that I play a lot in HF...I just cannot beat this guy! I have lost so many insanely close matches to this guy that it's driving me insane!!  Ok not really, but it's a little frustrating. SOOOOO many times it's been 1 round all and we're both within one hit of a KO, and I just totally freeze up or panic or something! I mean almost every single one of our matches is about as close as can possibly be, but he just gets the upper hand every. single. time. I don't think I've beat him once.

Last night though I did something amazing against him: he had my life bar completely drained, I mean there was no yellow left it was all red, I have no idea how I wasn't dead, and he was about to perfect me.

Well I pulled a Daigo on his ass and came back to win the round somehow, it was completely insane, I seriously wish I had it on videotape. I don't know why I can't play like that all the time!! I even remember exactly how it happened. I got him in the corner with a roundhouse sweep, threw a jab fireball at him as he was getting up, walked up/tick threw him out of the corner into the middle of the screen, hit him with a jumping Hurricane Kick as he jumped in with a roundhouse, got him with a crossup roundhouse-fierce-jab dragon punch combo, and finished him off with a crossup roundhouse :D

Next round I had him dizzied and almost dead and I jumped in for a combo and maybe because of the lag, I totally whiffed it and only hit him with a standing Fierce. I pretty much lost my mind at that point and almost gave up, mentally. I didn't really give up but I was in shock. He won that round and that match and I had to call it a night  My brain was fried after that one.

wow some pretty impressive comebacks

I'm kinda shocked at the tactics of some of these players....I have no idea why some of them didn't go for a combo on their dizzied opponent, that really makes no sense to me, they just settled for that ink-blot attack (i forgot what they're called that's how little I play SF4).

still some seriously insane comebacks, though.

It's called Focus Attack. Actually, after hitting the focus attack, your opponent becomes in a 'crumple' state, so you can follow up with a combo. I think they just messed up the execution, choked at the winning line LOL

Just got this for XMAS!

Image

This thing is a beast! 6 pounds!

The thing is, I totally suck on it right now....wow. My main problem is panicking and forgetting where my hands are/which button to press. It's much more precise than I'm used to- the stick can only go 8 places, so it's a little awkward right now. I'll get used to it but right now I suck.

I've also been hooking it up to my PC and using it to play the first SF2 (world warrior) and SSF2. Pretty fun stuff.

One thing I've noticed right away though is (like you said) that it makes tapping moves way easier. You can tap 3 or more buttons at once, really fast, so Blanka's electricity and Honda's HHS come out very very fast. It's also awesome for getting out of dizzy very quickly.

Nice Christmas present jaylove :tu

Definately stick with it  It will take a few weeks (or longer) to feel comfortable. Once you begin to get used to it, you will feel in much more control of your character.

I found using charge characters was easier than the motion ones. But now I am comfortable with both. Here is a simple diagram to help understand how to do a Hadouken in an efficient way:

Image

There is no right or wrong way, but the 'correct' way is faster, more efficient, and will feel more natural (but takes practice).

You got any questions just ask bud. Enjoy!

I changed it to an octagonal gate, it feel more natural than the squre, but with the shortcuts in sf4 it was easier to launch a srk while crouching.

Thanks for the diagram sound, that actually helps a little. I was making the motion much too big, I think.

@elargento: That's something I do a lot that I'm having trouble with. I do cr. lk, cr. lk, to MP SRK with HF Ken a lot and it's hard to do with the stick right now.

How did you change it to an octagonal gate and where did you buy the octagon gate?/

BTW just bought SSF2HDRM on xbox live. Pretty fun so far.

I'm actually getting used to the stick pretty quickly. I was just messing around with the computer in HD remix and I'm actually finally getting my Shoryuken and Hadouken skills back to somewhere near where they were with the controller.

Been playing HD Remix a lot lately and really liking it. I played some crazy good (well at least I thought they were good, I'm new to Super Turbo so who knows) Japanese guys online the other day and basically got my ass handed to me, but it was interesting to see pretty high-level ST in action. I was M. Bison for all the matches, I think he's my character in ST...anyways I won 3 times out of like 15 matches and even got a perfect one round so I was happy that I didn't get totally raped.

How are you getting on with the Fightstick jay?

I've been using Chun Li on SSF4, a lot of fun with her. Also, trying Dhalsim, I enjoy using him, but I think the opponents must get pi**ed off!
