The kid just turned 18. Kind of important to keep that in mind when accessing his talent/potential.
True. But, I can name more then a few 18 year olds that actually won their GS maiden matches and against a stronger opposition that never really became Grand Slam winners.
I access the talent only from what I see, and not the hype of the TV, that apparently is ready to make Harrison into something he is not. And what I have seen so far, suggests nothing of him becoming "the next big thing".
CHED, according to the stats, he didn't do bad at the net:
Net Approaches
54 of 91 = 59 % for Stakh
46 of 83 = 55 % for Harr
But if you take away the "put-away" volleys, he didn't do that well. He hits hard of the court and many times volleys are routine winners that you and I can hit at 9 out of 10 times.
This on the other hand is what he must improve:
Winning % on 2nd Serve
32 of 62 = 52 % - Stakh
24 of 67 = 36 % - Harr
With the amount of risks he takes during match, he must have a better serve to survive.
Winners/UE
Stakh - 58/46
Harr - 63/73
He needed almost 30 more UE to make only 5 more winners. His decision making is not great.
Poor second serve and UE will prevent him from advancing to anything past TOP20.
Look at Gulbis, Verdasco, Chardy, Pre-Change-Gonzo ...etc....
Now you can say, well, he will change!...ahhh...but that is where pure talent comes in. All guys above have pure nature given talent. Harrison is not a pushover, but seriously lacks talent when compared to above players.
So, I wish well and would love for him to prove me wrong.
