The kid just turned 18. Kind of important to keep that in mind when accessing his talent/potential.

True. But, I can name more then a few 18 year olds that actually won their GS maiden matches and against a stronger opposition that never really became Grand Slam winners.

I access the talent only from what I see, and not the hype of the TV, that apparently is ready to make Harrison into something he is not. And what I have seen so far, suggests nothing of him becoming "the next big thing".

CHED, according to the stats, he didn't do bad at the net:

Net Approaches
54 of 91 = 59 % for Stakh
46 of 83 = 55 % for Harr

But if you take away the "put-away" volleys, he didn't do that well. He hits hard of the court and many times volleys are routine winners that you and I can hit at 9 out of 10 times.

This on the other hand is what he must improve:

Winning % on 2nd Serve
32 of 62 = 52 % - Stakh
24 of 67 = 36 % - Harr

With the amount of risks he takes during match, he must have a better serve to survive.

Winners/UE
Stakh - 58/46
Harr - 63/73

He needed almost 30 more UE to make only 5 more winners. His decision making is not great.

Poor second serve and UE will prevent him from advancing to anything past TOP20.

Look at Gulbis, Verdasco, Chardy, Pre-Change-Gonzo ...etc....

Now you can say, well, he will change!...ahhh...but that is where pure talent comes in. All guys above have pure nature given talent. Harrison is not a pushover, but seriously lacks talent when compared to above players.

So, I wish well and would love for him to prove me wrong.
:P

BTW....Gulbis lost to Chardy 1st round in straight sets..... but, you are spot on when pointing out the 2nd serve....his average 2nd serve speed was 101mph....maybe he should take some velocity off and put more spin and drop it a little shorter in the box....ive always been told the 2nd serve is better when short

dude, he lost to Stakhovski, nice player, but not really up there with the rest of the biggies

he played really well, and if he can curb his nerves, should win this type of match. But will get rutienly overplayed by stronger opposition.

But yeah, great match from him, nice to see another potential American in top 20. Still looking for a Grand Slam winner thou

Nadal, Murray, Djokovic, and Gasquest all had trouble with 10-50 ranked players when they were 18...Harrison is the top ranked 18 year old right now...

actually they still have trouble now hahaha, age is not important though, it's easy to see if a player has something "different" ,"special" from the rest, i haven't watched that guy yet, so i can't give an opinion.

Is Rafa doing anything different on his serve or using a new string or something??? Or maybe he's lost some of the muscle/gained flexibility with his left arm?

i don't know, but if it's true that he can hit 130-135 mph serves constantly, the rest of the players can quit, because that was his main problem when playing on hard courts.
That being said, i think he's not playing good from the baseline yet, maybe that's why he's paying more attention on his serve, because he knows that on the rally he's not as powerful as he is on other surfaces

Thx for not answering guys... :?
I checked (not easy) and it seems that the expression "Go-to player" is more for NFL... So maybe we can't applpy it to Blake...
I was really wondering and it would have been quite nice from a U.S. guy to answer...
When i see a question i can answer, i do it (even with a very short sentence, but at least i don't let a question without answers... that is very not nice)
So now i think that it's not a place to ask questions actually... and i won't look for "English" help here anymore.
But f***k it anyway, i don't give a damn!

Go Rodge!

(I think that, from now, i will only troll  8) )

btw i knew about "go-to-guy" expression, for example "Cro is my "go-to-guy" when i have technical problems with a tournament draw", but i've never heard anything about "go-to-player", sorry
one more thing, i´m sure they didn't see your question, every time i've had doubts with Shakespeare language people like Jaylove or Rob have helped me.

Yeah, I missed the original question in 10 unread pages, but it seems like you're overreacting a little bit?

FYI - go to guy/player is more in reference to team sports. Where in clutch/important situations they always give the ball to one guy in particular. Like you mentioned, a star running back or wide receiver in football, or Michael Jordan in basketball for a last second win or lose shot.

Doesn´t really apply to individual sports like tennis or golf where there´s only one guy on the team.
