Is this a cruel joke to challengers?

Postby ILuvBillVal » Fri, 19 Mar 2010 22:24

The latest challenger tournament, in Marrakech, Morocco is being held on the Teranga tennis courts!!!

I didn't know it by name but when I went in to practice on it I realized it was the awful "SUPER TREE SHADOW COURT!" Ahhhh!!!

Not funny, guys. Seriously. ;-)

Well... I've been playing challengers because, contrary to anything believable within a matter of a few mere days I have hit a REALLY high level of play. Prior to this I think I was totally on a challenger level. However I already signed up for it, so I might as well play it. However with Rob and Murda playing I probably won't even win! :-/

the reason why i was playing a challenger is because i was rank 34 and after i won that master i got points and while in that master i also had been signed up for a challenger while i was still ranked 34 . . . now ! now that im in the 20's im not goin to play anymore challengers, also i felt i wasnt good yet !

I definitely need to interject one more time in my own defense. I am not Murda. Murda has been ridiculously good since the first time I have played him. I am in the first HALF of my first year! I just started here on ITST so give me a break. Honestly I feel like I could use the practice with real competition (unlike joke world tour matches). There are plenty of guys with real skills that play challenger events, most of which have been around a hell of a lot longer than I have. And heck, I'm unranked in Sim!

Phew. I don't even feel like I should have to defend myself on this but there it is anyway. I'm a rookie. :-)

Yeah, I'm not sure what the big deal is either. If Rob (SIM test tournament 3 champion!!!) is playing, anyone with the appropriate rank should be allowed in.

That said, the counter argument is valid as well - if you're good enough, I think most people would PREFER to level themselves up rather than beat up the kids on the short bus.

I don't want to step on toes but I feel like the big reason most players are playing challengers is to up their points, In reality a challenger is generally played by the lower echelon players, take the US OPEN Summer Hardcourt series for example, there are big names SOMETIMES but its generally one or two. To be completely frank we both know that you belong in the Majors events. I think it's almost unfair to take the chance for the lower ranked players to finally achieve something.

You know I love and respect you all the same Bill

I'm playing because I haven't played much sim lately and I need the practice - plus there were no regular events for that week.

But I agree; if you are good enough to compete in regular events, you shouldn't make a habit out of playing Challengers.

i also thought myself about to sign up this week in sim challenger -coz no regular 90-40 tournament was available this week.
i think its not a big deal .
i have a question.
what is the actuell rule in moment?
can i sign up for a regular challenger and also for regular full tournament at same week when i over rank 30 ?
or i can only sign up in one tournament?

You can only sign up for 2 tournaments if they start on different days. You don't have to worry though, the system will not let you sign up for two tournaments that start on the same day.

I agree, but up until REALLY recently I hadn't felt that way. Half of my damn advances in tournaments were walkovers because people would never make an effort to play then I'd get stuck against someone like Coolhand or Norberto who I just wasn't ready for and they'd kick my ass. I got through a lot of rounds I ought to have not gotten through at first.

Things are different now. I'm finally beginning to feel "officially" confident in my game. It's not like, "ooohh I might serve good today" or "I think I can play a good rally here and there" it's like a complete feeling of being ready. So yeah this should be the end of the challenger road for me.

Now get off my back! ;-)
