NHL or NHL2K?

My girlfriend needs a game of the NHL-series for the son of a friend, and she asked me, if I could tell her, which one is good - I never played NHL -games (and none of my friends), so I have absolutely no clue...

Are the NHL or NHL2K games "better", more popular, whatever?

And which year's version is the best when it comes to gameplay (should not be older than 2006 though...)?

No brainer here. EA's NHL game is far superior. NHL 09 won tons of awards, including "Best Sports Game of the Year." By all accounts, NHL 10 is as good or better.

Hello i have read this thread....

I have the old games from Nhl 2k7 and NHL 2k8...
The Nhl 2k series it was better earlier...

Now is NHL 2009 and NHL 2010 better as NHL 2K9 and 2K10...

I have NHL 2010 and this game is so very realistic and cool.....

The 2K series is utter crap and always has been. EA's NHL series is great, and always has been. Seriously the EA hockey franchise is one of the greatest and most consistent in the sports video game history...I still play NHL 93-98 on my Genesis BTW. I got NHL 2K8 Christmas a few years back and played it for about 10 minutes before I decided it was crap.
