There is one good thing about being down - the only place to look is UP!

I see a trend in your loses. Serve. You have no problem earning breakpoints, but you get broken. I would say work on that part of the game. Maybe mix in some stick serving, slice and kick. Stick adds more spin to these....even if your placement is not perfect, just the variations of spin can cause your opponent to mistime a few returns here and there....and that is all you need, you obviously not getting blown out, its just a matter of a few key points.

Keep using buttons, but try to mix in stick serve now and then. Also try not to serve with the same speed.

The best thing for someone who doesn't place his serves well is change of pace/speed and spins. If you can't move the returner left or right, then make him mistime the return. It could be even MORE effective then placement.

You can serve with no triggers at all, then add L2 alone, then R2 alone, Then both, then stick, keep changing slice, kick, flat. There are so many variations to use. If you pulled of a great serve - don't repeat it. Go for a complete different one. Yes, the tendency is do replicate what just worked for you, but that can lead to you thinking that's the ONLY thing that works for you and ultimately hurt you at the crucial moment. I always look for trends in my opponent serving and I always know what serve exactly he will be going for in tie break

The more you mix the serve, the better. Don't look for aces or serve winners, look for effective serve that can yield weak returns.

That pretty much sums up my philosophy on serving. I take mental notes of how many times I've hit each type of serve, and at which point in a game I've hit them...I try to hit what I feel are unexpected serves, but sometimes when I'm a bit nervous I can get repetitive without realizing it.

On the other hand, sometimes it's good to repeat a serve that your opponent just returned for a winner. If your flat serve up the middle just got blasted back, do it again. Chances are your opponent will expect you to be afraid to try it again. It also sends a good message - that you are not scared of his returns.

Very true. The whole serve/return is a game in itself, mental game. In most cases that's the battle you need to win, not the ground game. You need to outsmart your opponent while serving and returning.

You mean your character's grunting??

No offense but if you have the grunting set to 'always'...your character is extremely annoying! :P I've played a few guys where I literally had to turn the volume all the way down because it was driving me crazy listening to a guy who sounded like an extremely constipated gorilla
