I currently have an iPhone 3G should I upgrade to the iPhone 4 ? Then again apple is probably going to release another iPhone next year . And is the retina display that good ? Thoughts?

Hmmmmm.....3GS - iphone4.....prob not worth it, but from original to 4 would prob see major diff in performance and stuff.

For my money, upping my 3GS to the new OS has been very cool!

Whats the point in it, do you need all those stupid apps? i dont see why a phone has to be more than a phone. My LG phone cost 90 euro, it has a good camera, accsess to wap, has free facebook, twitter, google maps and a radio, i dont need anything else

Lol! Yeah......stoopid apps....stoopid touchscreen.....stoopid browser......lol!!! I've moved from bb bold to iPhone 3GS - only regret is I didn't do it sooner - re apps, seriously, don't need 'em all.....but the selection is great and the price likewise - you're right overall.....don't 'need' an iPhone....but there's needing' and there's liking....!

i have a HTC desire, and its pretty fun. But now i have iTards looking down thier nose at me because they have a more expensive phone, which can do exactly the same as mine except record in 720p HD video. that is literally the only difference. I can buy a HTC desire, (which, with android 2.2 will be around twice as fast as the iPhone 4 or 5 times as fast as a iPad,) for £360. I could then buy a full HD camcorder for £300, making £660. A iPhone 4, for the basic 16GB version, is around £700. I seriously wonder why.

Its not even open source like android, with an iPhone you are basically Apple's slave, you have to do what apple say when Apple say it.

Whoa......let the healing begin.......! Hey, fun as the whole schoolyard style stuff can be, a quick visit to fact-land:

Android is fast - arguably faster than ios4....arguably - but it's certainly not 2x as fast or some of other funny numbers you mention. Yeah, it's expensive, which is a shame - but being realistic, you get what you pay for - innovative functionality and the device that, 3 YEARS on is still the benchmark......? Maybe we could have less of the fanboy style dialogue and something more like an adult discussion......doubt it tho....

http://techcrunch.com/2010/05/20/androi ... peed-ipad/

"As you can see Android 2.2 not only blows away Android 2.1, it destroys the iPad as well. In fact, it laps the iPad a few times over."

"Google claims that with Froyo, Android users will see a 2x to 5x speed increase (over the previous build of the OS). It looks like they’re telling the truth."

I can't believe too that all Apple have done is basically match what android have already done. Also, no flash, no java... Apple needs to seriously consider going open source. Its kind of condesecending to me to have one company in the year 2010 dictating what i can and can't do with my phone. The iphone 4 i a great phone, but is hideously overpriced and i just can't see the justification for it, apart from the name and Apple's exploitation of their legion of diehard supporters who would pay £2000 for it. And they will for the iPhone 5 when that comes out in say, May/June 2011.

But hey it doesnt bother me lol. Its still a good device, and if people are happy with it then good for them.

 I have an iPhone and seriously it's all rather overwhelming. I use it to check on the forums here and look at Youtube videos when I'm in line for takeout at a restaurant or something, but I seriously don't give 1/2 of a f*#k about all the stupid 'apps'.

OMFG, DOOD I HAVE A LIGHTSABER APP

This is why smartphones are so fun. But yeah, 90% of apps are totally irrelevant. The best one i have is Google Sky Map, which by pointing your camera at the sky it tells you what consellations you are looking at and you can also search for say "jupiter" and it will direct you to where it is, pretty cool, especially if you're in the country with low light pollution

Yeah stuff like that is cool. I have Google Earth. That's actually the only app that I have.

Technology is advancing so quickly - and prices dropping with each incarnation - I'm not gonna buy a damn thing until I'm on my death bed. Wanna spend my money wisely.
