Your best router

Postby ANILTJE » Mon, 15 Feb 2010 15:46

I have a question.

Right now I am using the Linksys wrt160nl.

Should be an amazing router. But the internet speed drops whenever.

I have to reset or reflash to get the connection back to where it was .

I have another that I got Linksys wrt160n. Has even more problems.

Have another Linksys wrt45g2. I put a ddwrt on it cause the speed drops a lot aswell.
But didnt help either.

My friend uses the old WRT54GL and it has NO issues whatsoever.
I am tempted to buy this one cause actually it was the one I wanted to buy in the first place but people kept offering me theirs ( lucky me) :-S
I help people install their networks and always get the the WRT54GL and seems to work well. But for the people I buy it, it's not such a big deal if the connection is not the full 17 MB I normally have.
Me as a gamer and Utorrent abuser I need a kick ass connection at all times.

But before I go and do something stupid in investing in a new wireless router. I first wanna know which ones you use.

And how stable it is.

I just want to best for a good price

So give me the models that make your cyber life smooth and silky and tell me which ones made yours a living hell.

Cheers

I have the WRT54GL too, works like a charm.
It only has problems with portforwarding (for DMT), but installing opensource firmware fixed that problem.

Linksys is one of the best in the industry, you can't judge a router by if you drop your Internet connection or not, it should be how often you drop the connection.
I am using an old Belkin one and I have to reset the router maybe once a month, it usually happens when I am doing intensive downloading.

Yeah this GL seems the bomb.

It's cheap too. It's also the one that made linksys big. I have the feeling the new ones just don't do it the way that one does.

At the moment I'm using Linksys WRT54GL Router but I plan on getting the Linksys WRT400N or the Linksys WRT610N soon. Those 3 are the best routers I've come across in a while.
Work me a boss.

Actiontec GT704wg. A good tactic to not get ripped-off guys is to call customer service to see what is the fastest modem/router that works best with your internet service. Once you get this information, hop on E-bay and buy it yourself.

Then, if you need help setting it up, you can call tech support and say you purchased a new router.

You've just saved money and cut out the middle-man! :tu

I second what picachu said - Linksys seems to make quality routers. I have a Linksys WRT54GS and have had no issues whatsoever with it.

I had this, but the Actiontec was one step up. It may be ugly but helps us pump the speeds to a higher level. :D

Verizon was asking for $160 (plus a $40 installation fee). I got it on Ebay for less than $40 USD! Haha.

I think the GL seems good.

Actually i put the 160 upside down . and it seems to be better. I have the feeling that the ventilation isn't very good and gets overheated. Cause when I put it off for 10 min it seems to work normal again.
