The Internet is dead!

...according to Prince.

The music industry might be embracing digital and online technology, but Prince is not convinced that it’s a good thing.

"The Internet's completely over,” Prince told British tabloid publication, The Mirror, in his first newspaper interview in 10 years. “I don't see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won't pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can't get it.”

Prince is currently set to release his latest album, “20Ten,” for free through various European print media, including the Daily Mirror and its Scottish affiliate, the Daily Record. Fans can snag their copy this Saturday via the different press outlets, but you they certainly won’t find any of the new material online.

Prince has banned both YouTube and iTunes from using his music, calling the web obsolete.

“The Internet's like MTV,” he told the mirror. “At one time MTV was hip and suddenly it became outdated. Anyway, all these computers and digital gadgets are no good. They just fill your head with numbers and that can't be good for you."

Plans for a “20Ten” in the States haven’t been announced. What do you think, is Prince on the verge smart new alternative for releasing albums or does his approach seem misguided?

This is what it sounds like when doves (and highly overrated, not cared about since 1988, semi-gay dudes) cry.

2 words: Jehova's Witness

He's one, and they all have bizarre views of the internet. Like the people who run the Scientology cult, the executives/CEO's of Jehova's Witness Incorporated (whatever it's actually called I Don't care) know that the internet holds the truth behind their scam and so try to turn off their subjects to the internet. He's probably only allowed to go to a few sites

I'm guessing he was allowed to go on this site only because Mother checked it for him....don't you remember he wouldn't even click on a link here unless somebody explicitly stated that there was no naked women or cursing to be found??

I think Prince is just old and confused by Teh Internetz. He doesn't realize he could make a lot more money and reach a lot more fans than he would by releasing it in....newspapers??? :? Really, Prince??

Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.

I think its quite good that he does this , Its like sticking the finger up to the capatilist money making society that people live in and sharing with the common people for free

Altho i suppose its easy for him to do that as he has already made his millions but in a way its good tho because its showing that is willing to give out his music for free basically now and giving back to his public , unlike other so called middle aged artists who would still charge for their albums even tho they have millions , artists have to remember its the fans that put them in their positions in the first place and i think its a good gesture

He is not giving it for free. He is including it free with each paper sale.

Which means he got a contract with a newspaper, that will give him tons of advance money - and he gets to say that he gives the album for free. But you spill buy the paper....granted thou, for less then a price of a CD....but not much less.

The reason why he is doing it, is because iTunes and other internet music distributors didn't want to give ANT advance money, they basically work on Sales Figures. If your album not selling, you not getting paid...etc...

What news Paper getting out of it? ....increased circulation and Ad Space sales. They will more then make up for the money paid to Prince in Ad Sales and future exposure and increased sales of future papers.
