Am I alone in finding it 'odd' that John Higgins lost?

Talk about anything unrelated to tennis or the ITST.

...yeah, probably one of the most naturally talented players ever to live - I think Alex Higgins may have been his equal, or maybe even superior in that respect - the most successful player in the modern game at this time, is, of course Stephen Hendry....no longer a serious force alas.

For all his natural talent, I have to say I don't like O'Sullivan...his talk when away from the table is atrocious....if I was his agent, I probably wouldn't allow him to speak in public...certainly not at press-conferences following matches. He moans and complains and never stops banging on about his woes and problems...dunno, seems like bad grace given the sheer level of his talent.

Re your question! Why did they stop at 4-4?
they play 8 frames/games per session - mid-session break of 15 mins after 4, with a total of 3 sessions at this stage.

If O'Sullivan can keep his head right (lol!!!! now THERE'S an unpredictable situation...), no-one can really touch him now....Selby is fantastic and may well win...I hope he does, personally.

Kinda feelin' sorry for old Stevie Davis now... he has to turn up tomorrow to play the final session....he'll probably be going home 20 minutes after he gets there.

I like both really and yeah, like Sherlock said, the rules are very simple, especially comparing to tennis.

And isn't Foreman the guy who makes grills? :?

lol!!! yup, he's the grill guy now, but was one of the scariest, best boxers ever to fight (check it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WL7KnkWWXbQ&feature=fvw).

Al - if you can explain the rules of Russian Billiards in 10,000 words or less, with, say a maximum of 1,000 diagrams, I will fly to the U.S. (maybe catch a boat actually...not sure which way the wind is blowing today...) and be your man-servant for a whole month

I love the look of it...but I haven't time to do another PHD......

Lets put it this way: if you never played it and played snooker only - you are in for a VERY frustrating time  I bet you will struggle to put 1 ball in a hole for a few hours.

But once move back to snooker, you will be God.

sorry, but....

In Russia, billiards plays you!

Thanks to beltic caldy for explaining the rules of snooker, it actually is rather simple I guess. I usually play just 8-ball or 9-ball but I think I wanna step up to the friggin HUGE snooker table sometime and give it a shot.

P.S- I'm retarded and have no idea why I quoted myself, I meant to edit my last post

Selby has been doing this against Ronnie, coming back to win from many frames down. Great player

He's a class-act alright....slightly curious case....he was only a top 64 player for quite a few years then it was like someone gave him a can of spinach or something...went to being a world-beater.

His cue-action is mad too....have you noticed how his head kinda 'wobbles' left to right before he shoots....almost like it's part of his aiming-phase....completely counter to conventional wisdom on the subject....bloody effective tho.

And aye, as regards Ronnie, there almost seems to be something about Selby's game that Ronnie doesn't like....good...personally, I'd happily see Ronnie vanish and (with just a little luck) never be heard from again. He just irritates me to the marrow.....

Snooker champion John Higgins in 'bribe' allegation.

Snooker world number one John Higgins has reportedly agreed to take a £261,000 bribe to lose frames in four separate matches later this year.

The News of the World alleges it has video of Higgins and his manager Pat Mooney at talks in Ukraine on Friday.

Mr Mooney is quoted as saying they feared for their safety at the time. There is no suggestion Higgins has ever thrown a frame or fixed a match.

World Snooker boss Barry Hearn said an investigation had been launched.

'Massive blow'

He told BBC Radio 5 live he was "absolutely mortified" and the story had come as a "huge shock".

He said he would decide whether to suspend the player within the next 24 hours.

Mr Mooney is reported to have told the News of the World: "You have no idea what the circumstances were in Kiev, that's why I have no comment.

"But we were genuinely in fear for our safety."

The paper says three-time world champion Higgins refused to comment.

It alleges the sports star inquired at the meeting about the best ways to conceal the 300,000 euros ($398,000) to be received.

In a published transcript, Higgins, 34, from Wishaw, North Lanarkshire, says it would be easy to affect the outcome of a frame so syndicates could place bets.

Many bookmakers now offer the option of betting on individual frames.

Mr Mooney is a board member of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association, whose commercial arm is World Snooker.

Mr Hearn was earlier quoted as saying: "If true, these allegations are a very serious matter indeed and a massive massive blow to the integrity of the sport".

The promoter has recently proposed an overhaul of the sport including rule changes and boxing-style introductions for the players.

The World Snooker Championship final begins in Sheffield later.

Higgins is the current world champion and provisional world number one and has won a total of 21 ranking titles.

He was unexpectedly knocked out of the current tournament in the second round by veteran Steve Davis.

Hmmm........problem here is I reckon it was most-likely Hearn who approached.....and now he's running the investigation.

Sod it all - incredibly saddening - as i said before, I don't believe for a single second that Davis knew a thing about it, but Higgins? Even the interview afterwards.....if he'd been serious about trying to win the match, he should have been at least a little pissed-off/disappointed - there was none of that in him...just this sheepishness.

very tricky to prove, but this casts bad shadows and must surely raise questions about 'certain' results.

sigh. sad sad sad.

Sad and angry in varying measures depending on when I think about it. Higgins should be minted....I mean seriiusly WTF????? And he's amongst, in my opinion the 4 or 5 best snooker players ever to have played the game - still well at the height of his game - I don't understand at this stage - we'll maybe see what comes out....irrespective, it casts an ugly shadow on a game I've always been proud of for it's embracing of fair-play and adherence to that in every way - don't know if you recently saw Fergal O'Brien call himself on a foul no-one saw, which arguably cost him the match against Peter Ebdon? Such things have not been uncommon in the game's history - this more than discredits all that somehow for me - what other players have been approached? Makes me rethink the Stephen Macguire investigation and other odd results.

Sad sad sad sad sad.

Please please, not Stephen McGuire as well! He is an awesome player.. I didn't see that match, but scores was pretty bad (vs Dott).

It's unbelievable, Higgins out of all people.. The excuse was so lame and flawed. He feared for his life as he thought it was the mafia? Makes me laugh. Good to see decisive action by Hearn so quickly.

Have you ever watched 'Lie to Me'? Just look at Higgins body language:

The way he touches his ear everytime he's saying something he doesn't want to 'hear'...
