OK, I think my old Xbox is Pro, 20GB hard drive.
I am thinking about getting a new one if I can't fix the Red Ring of Death.
It's been a while since I actually have to setup an account or anything, so can I still use my current Xbox gamertag, along with my Gold subscription?
Thanks! Finger crossed I can fix my precious this weekend.

All you need is the email address and password of your account and you can transfer it to the new xbox. Even easier - just save your old hard drive.

If your hard drive is fine, you could even get the Arcade xbox. I think it has a built in memory card, so you would be able to save 8 characters for TS3.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking about.
It's only 100 bucks difference.
Elite: Black, 120GB hard drive, a couple of more games.
Arcade: Memory card

I'd go with the arcade like Rob said. It's awesome to have an extra memory card (or internal memory) when you're testing new players. No need to clear the cache every time, just remove the harddrive. Saves some time. :)

I didn't know that worked.

If you have the Arcade, can you still use the HDD and 2 memory cards? Then you could have 4 separate storage devices - you could almost save the entire sim roster.

That would be awesome, not sure how many you can use at same time though. But I need to try it out asap! 16 different players to choose from might be confusing though. :)

And about removing the harddrive, all the game updates/patches are saved on the HDD.

Yep, just press no when the update thingy pops up. :) The only problem you'll have is that while you're creating the new player the dvd player will spin at full speed when it's reading the disc. Just like old times!

Gotta love to be able to install the games on the harddrive. 8)

I guess you need to move your profile on the memory card too.

When you put the hard drive back on, do you lose your gear? Racquets, clothing, etc?

Yep, I forgot that part, you need to move your profile to the mem card. No, you don't lose the gear.

I ordered two 512 MB memory cards today, and hopefully it'll work to use four different storage devices. 16 players! 8)

A little update: yes you can use 4 storage devices at the same time. I now have a 120 GB harddrive, two 512 MB mem cards and the 512 MB internal memory in my new jasper xbox. :)

On the subject of Xbox storage, this is very promising:

One thing worth mentioning is that after you put the old hard drive on the new Xbox, you have to remove the game and reinstall it if you plan to run your game from your hard drive.
