R16 Indian Wells: Gulbis vs. Nadal

Postby Cro Morgan » Tue, 12 Mar 2013 07:51

This match could be better than the final (certainly more intriguing). So, who do you think will win?

+1 to Nadal for obvious reasons. Gulbis is like Neymar for football.

+1 to Nadal, maybe, for his his name and reputation. Aside from that, all considered (injury, etc), you gotta give the edge to Gulbis.

Props to Gulbis for his new attitude and work ethic (mature) but the guy still smashes racquets like a banshee (immature). If Gulbis becomes unhinged against Nadal, for any reason, he's toast.

I wonder if Lendl would consider taking on another player. Now that's a guy who could really help Gulbis - though I doubt the relationship would last more than a day.

I just hope it's gonna be a close match.
"Knowing" Gulbis, it could also end 62 62 in about 1 hour.

So, as I said, I just hope we can have fun.

Knowing Gulbis he could also lead 6-2 5-2 and then lose 6-2 6-7 1-6. Interesting match, let's see if he can keep his form against a top player. Though I really want to see a Fed-Nadal QF.

I would love for Fed Vs Nadal of Grass or Clay....not on Hard. I much rather see Gulbis on Hard VS both

I think if he returns anything close to the way he returned against Tipsy - Rafa is in BIG trouble. Otherwise Rafa will be too consistent for him.

Nadal, 6-3, 6-2. No clue why anyone would think Gulbis stands a chance. Not to mention, he has a 0-4 losing record against nadal.

No Clue? Hmmm, let me give you a few clues:

- check that 4-0 record. Check how close the matches were
- 16 match winning streak
- Nadal had one competitive match on hard after being out for a while

He may lose 6-3 6-2, but you predicting it shows lack of research at least.... ;)

He was also the only one taking a set from Rafa on clay that time ;)

Gulbis is probably in the best disposition to beat Nadal now. This one was not at his best against Harrison while Gulbis has a really good dynamic for once. He is still really, really inconsistent but that's maybe what could give him a chance against Nadal. But well, it's tennis, and the beauty of sport is that everything can happens (hello Rosol), Nadal is of course the favourite but he hasn't won yet, especially with a crazy man like Ernests on the other side.

I don't need to research the obvious.

Predicting a "has-been" player to beat a 11-time grand slam champion, a player who is is more experienced and more powerful, to me shows a lack of respect (not lack of research).

Let's see, maybe i'm wrong (doubt it tho).
