Barclays ATP World Tour Finals = Meh

Anyone else completely bored by the whole idea of the, ahem, Word Tour Finals? I mean, seriously, WTF!

The round-robin format doesn't generate any significant level of interest. How can it? I mean, a player can lose a match and still win the tournament. Say what?

Outside of the hardcore tennis fan, the only people interested in this season-ending tournament are, well, no one. If no one cares, something is wrong.

The idea of the Word Tour Finals is almost as bad as the Davis Cup format. Almost, because nothing is as stupid as the Davis Cup.

If the ATP insists on having season-ending event, a better idea, open it up to the Top 16 players - then throw them into sudden-death brackets, like a normal tournament. Granted this normal-like tournament wouldn't be unique, but at least it would be worth watching.

Professional tennis is run by brain-deadiots.

Well in football terms its kind like champions league, best of the best. I actually find it quite fun to see the results between the top boys on tour. Actually baffled how i managed to get in but hey, all i can do is my best.

Quick question norberto took 1 set off zizzou so i take it zizzou quit but if qualification to semis is determined on sets won and lost this will may effect the outcome is this fair?

kinda agree with you, do you have any suggestion to make it more interesting? or what you would do is just to skip this "tourney"
In my opinion i see it as a last "dance", that's all, just to have fun, the stadium is great, good atmosphere, not a big deal, i mean players are exhausted and all they want to do is go on vacation, so i don't expect too much from them.
Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.

I think its a great tournament which consistently produces great matches, just not this year, this year it has been boring, but usually it is great.

But then it would just be like a normal masters, with less people. I don't think the format is reason for lack of interest. It worth 1500 points so still important ranking wise.

I just want rafa fed final ffs, one of them always screws up now

• 16 man draw -- the top 16 ranked players in the world.
• $2,000,000 purse; prize money distributed as follows:

Lose first round: $0.00
Lose quarterfinal: $0.00
Lose semifinal: $0.00
Lose final: $0.00
Winner: $2,000,000

Now that's a tournament I'd watch. 8)

i´m in generell with you.
how the finals work at moment its boring at all.
a 16 man draw would be much better, only that the winner got all the money and the rest got nothing ......i don´t know .
think that than alot of the 16 players will make hollydays before they play for nothing !!
so a fixed startermoney for every player would be better !!

I like the round robin setup. Not as much stress per match, agreed. But I think the idea is good in that you get to see the top ten duke it out over and over with each other in matches that would have been quarters/semis the rest of the year.
USUALLY the matches are all high quality and competitive. This year obviously not, but all straight set easy wins is the exception. If the season were to be shortened significantly and this even happened shortly after the USO, I think it would get a lot more attention and hype.

If you're a top 10 tennis player, you're probably making more money than you'll ever need. I think prize money is secondary for most of these guys. I bet most of them would still show up for the WTF if there was no prize money at all.

Agree with you there. A 16 player draw plus injuries and you could have players turning up who are well out of the depth. With just the eight spectators know they are guaranteed a big name playing during the week and more chance of a top name lineup hence all top 4 players in the semis.

couldn't agree more - what a match!!!!!!! Murray must be gutted - for my money, it was more him choking than Nadal winning - but only by the slightest margin! would dearly love to see Murray play with that kind of aggression more often - Nadal had to be wondering what the hell was happening...! Fair play to Rafa though - looked to me like he was losing that match - especially the final tie-break.....amazing stuff - hell with the nay-sayers!!!!!

I dont know, not often you see Nadal hit a UE at 5-4 30 all serving for the match after recovering from 0-30, or not taking adv of a 15-40 chance just after winning a set, but a good match none the less
