Which Spaniard (except of Rafa) can win a Slam?

Postby Saarbrigga » Wed, 08 Sep 2010 14:57

In the golden era of german tennis, we had Steffi Graf, Boris Becker and Michael Stich.

Graf: 22 Grand Slam titles
Becker: 6
Stich: 1

Ok, Stich won just 1, but he did it, defeated Courier, Edberg and Becker in a row in Wimbledon 1991.

Do you think there is a Spaniard out there who can win a Slam besides Nadal?
Verdasco, Ferrer, Lopez, many outstanding players there...

Verdasco maybe US or Australian Open?
Or Lopez Wimbledon?

It s very funny. 10 years ago it was just Roland Garros (Bruguera, Berasategui, Corretja, Moya), now it s more grass or hard courts.

Why is that? :?:

When Verdasco is churning on all cylinders he is definitely capable of winning a Slam. Problem is, he only churns on all cylinders once every 22 months.

hahaha i see we're quite famous lately, well anyway.... maybe Verdasco could do it, he has talent to win a Grand Slam, he would need to play a Slam playing great and Federer and Nadal playing bad, i mean players like Albert Costa, Gaudio or Safin have won a Slam and in my opinion they are not better players than Fernando, but yeah, it's complicated if Nadal and Federer keep their high level.

Check these stats:

last 23 Grand Slams: Federer=12 + Nadal=8 :20 completely INSANE, only Safin in 2005 (Australia), Djokovic in 2008 (Australia) and in 2009 Del Potro (US Open) have won a Slam since 2005 apart from Rafa and Roger

so the problem for Verdasco, Tsonga, Soderling and another great players is "The Double R" (Rafa & Roger)

Lol, I almost said Fernando Gonzalez. Gonzalez has better chance than Verdasco but for only Spanish player than it is Verdasco. I was really disappointed to see Ferrer lose that after being up like that in the final tiebreaker. He just gave it away getting tight. Oh well, Verdasco is my answer.

what do you mean with "should have had" and "should have won"?? when you lose a match is because your rival has been better than you. Life is full of those "should have done" "should have won"......
