i agree, he can't dominate all surfaces, it happens with Federer on clay and it happened with Pete Sampras in the past also on clay, 2 of the greatest of all time btw, it's almost impossible to be the 1 on all surfaces

That s impossible!
But Federer from 2005 - 2007 was like this:
Hardcourt: Nr. 1
Grass: Nr. 1
Clay: Nr. 2
Sampras never came close to be Nr. 2 on clay. He was maybe Nr. 10 in his generation, far away from Guga, Bruguera, Muster, Berasategui, Moya, Corretja and the rest of them.
But Federer from 2005 - 2007 was like this:
