It was my first tennis match. I played in a city near Bucharest. All i remember is that i fell a couple of times in my attempt to hit some balls... Not the softest of the surfaces... :(

I played on AstroTurf once. Some super rich Hotel owner installed an indoor AstroTurf court on top of a thin layer of sand - it was very easy on his knees. I liked it - super fast, low bounces, and you didn't fatigue as quickly.

That is the only thing about grass: too much to upkeep and very dangerous to play on.

I mean, when I was hitting the ball against the wall, one of the tennis ball went in the grass. So, what do I do? I go and get the ball in the grass with slight dew on it.

I walked on the concrete and almost fell on my butt. Yet, I used my strong legs and every muscle in my upper thighs to not fall backwards. At what cost?

I saved myself from embarassment; but, I tore my muscles and could not climp up the stairs for a good 4 days!! LOL.

Sounds like the concrete was the dangerous part. Even if you fall on grass you're not likely to get hurt like you would on concrete - maybe that's why you didn't see Becker dive much at the U.S. Open.

Yeah I usually play on artificial grass, and it doesn´t fee real, but it´s really fast.
Never underestimate the pain of a person, because in all honesty, everyone is struggling. Some people are just better at hiding it than others.

The Astroturf courts I've played were not nice, too slippery

I've played on a 'sandy Astroturf' court, but it felt a lot more like clay than grass.
I didn't play a match, so I'm not sure how it reacts with serious shots/movement, but the ball kicked up more often even on fairly weak topspin shots.

Must have been more sand than the one you played.

Nah Rob. I was not saying that. I was doing fine on the concrete, until I walked in the grass and went back on the concrete.

Sometimes, you get that slippery green wet stuff on your sneakers. That causes major problems. Haha.

I wished my ball never went into the grass that day. LOL.

I've never played on anything but hard :( I've played on some very nice hardcourts, but that's it.

I've played on hard, carpet, green clay, red clay, astro turf, and grass, I can say that grass was my least favorite... by far.

it's prob. due to the fact that I grew up playing on clay and I play a Nadal-style top spin game. the grass just didn't feel right.

Yes. I did the same thing when playing soft ball. I was running too fast not thinking that it is somewhat like ice in disguise!

That is a good question. Most of the students in the class were baseball athletes. They threw the ball slowly, because the instructor told them that it was a beginner's course.

Yet, some pitchers did bomb the ball over the plate!!
