Monte-Carlo Masters 2014

Welcome to the 2014 edition of Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters! Even with some players not appearing in Draw, with 62 players there are 9 more than in 2013. It is the first big clay tournament of this season and now with the draw being out, it is looking to be a competitive one like last year:

Singles Draw

Quarterfinal match-ups could be Richie vs. MaGav, C4iLL vs. VMoe (again  ) in the top half, whereas the lower half is a bit more open with several contestants to meet butcher or Vramvrim eventually.

Good luck everyone!

Nice Italian clash between Pig-Sniper in first round.
Curious to see who will transit to the clay courts best.
A lot of possibilities for revanches in this draw 8)

*sigh*.

Of all the places to be drawn I'm scheduled to play Vram for the 3rd time this season. Already played FelipeM 3 times. Lost all of them.
Man times have changed..... Used to be I could a win a title. :|
And damn the seedings. I'm like 17th and missed out on easier draw until R16. Ugh this is so difficult.

Tough draw for me too: maybe relatively a bit lucky drawing the 8th among the top 8 seeded in a potential R16 (isaldor), but in my quarter there are two dangerous outsiders: mar7xion and Nadal_Fan. To defend my QF of the last year, I really need to improve a lot this week, and find back a form I'm slowly losing in the last days since I'm really busy with the campus

Just to asd something : I've just noticed that the real Monte Carlo is a 64 players draw with 8 "bye", whereas the ITST one is a 64 players draw with 2 "bye". Quite realistic then 8)

Well actually in our Monte Carlo draw there would be no bye if there were full 64 sings up as there is "only" 62 and those 2 places left granted the 2 highest seeds the bye 1st round.

I've just finished my match vs Lambdo (Federer) 6-2 6-2 and I was very surprised by his awesome progress and ability to constantly go inside out as I used to do with federer.

The score is very hard for him regarding his performance : not a lot of faults, a large amounts of shots on line, I really had to play at 100% as if it was a top10-15. Definitely the best Fed I met in 2014 and perhaps one of the best "inside out" master of the tour now :)

Really curious about his next performances, with more experience he could really hurt a lot of guys around (especially the top10-15)

Episode 2 of Walking Dead Season 3: Big battle in the wind of Monaco

Here we are again, C4iLL as Monfils, myself as Djokovic, quarter-final of Monaco. The conditions were windy, which influenced the match, but nevertheless it was interesting in its own way. In the first set I was flawless, 13 winners to 6 errors, 8 out of 10 at the net, no break points faced, converted 2 break points, won 6-3 against a C4iLL who was not playing at his Miami level (also due to the wind), but he still managed to get my stamina down for the 2nd set, 6-3 for me in 1st set.

I was in control of the match at this point, starting to serve in the 2nd set and at 2-1 I have a break point, where I gave the match out of my hand: I make a wrong choice, try to wrongfoot, hit right back to him, lose the point and the game, 2-2. Out of nowhere I get broken for 2-3 and find myself down 2-4. I felt no urgency, yet, I was sure of getting another chance in this set. He had to serve for the 2nd set at 5-4, it is 30-0, I play three good point to get 30-40. Wind disturbed me on return and he scored an ace, served it out then, I was like "Only you lose in such stupid way!". In the end 6-4 for him in this set.

3rd set started again with me serving and he started better, also with the help of wind, but he played better and broke for 1-0. Then I nearly gave up after some points in the second game, rushing the net like a fool and sometimes not even moving anymore. He even scored a second break, then he gifted me a point which got me back into the third set, playing great tennis to get back to 4-4. At this moment our stamina was down to 3 or 4 bars. I had gamepoints for 5-4, especially one hurt, because his return clipped the netcord and wind made it difficult to put the ball properly away. It was the game that would decide the winner: I hold, I win, he breaks, he wins, that's how I felt. Well, he broke and had to serve it out. I gave my best to make it difficult, saved a match point to get to deuce (I think I had 0-30 in this game and missed a chance for 15-40 or so). He won 6-4 in the end.

It is a weird match in total, because I think I played better for most of the match, just did not use my chances in second set. The level was there, I think Robbin will have to suffer in Barcelona QF this weekend. Good luck to C4iLL in the SF!

Butcher wins Monte Carlo for the 2nd time in a row, congratulations to him (6-3, 6-4, Gasquet vs Monfils).

I had 3 times 1 break in advance during that match (3-1 in first set, 2-0 in second set and after he debreaks, a new break to lead 3-1) but I was too much in trouble on my service, I did not find the solution to keep it with security. Butcher played a very solid match and won the tactical battle, I tried several things but I had a wall in front of me, he was just better. Perhaps I just didn't have the good gameplan I don't know !

At the end, he registered 7 breaks, me 4 breaks. To conclude, whatever the staff thinks about the tournaments delay etc, this title goes in his track record, he deserves it.

Hasta lavista
