Coin-toss rule

Postby omidje90 » Thu, 03 Nov 2011 00:32

Well, after CP Morgan closed my topic, i want to discuss here about the rule. In my opinion this rule has to change and i think that its allowed to discuss about it on this page of the forum, so please don't close the topic but discuss about this rule because its ridicoulous if you'd aske me..

I think it should be aloud the discuss these things here..

What do you think is ridiculous? That you weren't allowed to play after the deadline? BTW: What does that have to do with the cointoss rule?

What he means is the coinflip itself isn't redicilous, but the fact that he asked one day extantion- they would play today- and the host didn't give it is kinda odd... I asked for extantion many times and it was always granted, it's strange this host decided else even though they told him the match would be played today.

We usually don't give extensions for early rounds, and in this case, there was no guarantee that the match would get played the next day either - omidje90 didn't mention that they scheduled to try again "Wednesday or Thursday", so it wasn't even certain that they would get the match played with the extension.

No offense to omidje90, but it's funny that the winners never complains about cointosses...... :idea

No deadline extensions for matches before the QF, that's the general rule of thumb. Extensions for earlier rounds drop the tournament into too big a hole. We have to keep things moving, on track, on schedule. You might find a Host or two who bends this rule of thumb, but that Host ain't me.

yea but I mean if you know the reason is something they can't do anything about, it should be possible to make an exception right.. giving one match that has been delayed by technical problem one more day wouldn't hurt right?... And a host or two? There are much more than 2 flexible hosts that want to make an exception for a good reason..

Actually, imo, that's even more reason not to give the extension. You could give them a week, and they still might not be able to connect.

I can see your point of view, but in cases like this the most fair thing is to just go by the book.

I wouldn't have complained even if I lost the cointoss. Strange way to win a match, but I accept the host's decision - especially when there is a rule for these situations.

The cointoss rule itself is a good one, because there aren't many uncomplicated and fair ways to deal with a match, which cannot be played due to technical problems.

Since I'm currently playing Batman Arkham City this cointoss discussion reminded me of Two Face's scenes in The Dark Knight:

Honestly even though sometimes there are extensions we should feel LUCKY that the hosts and staff are nice enough to grant them when they do. The fact is that the deadline passed and that's it. If they wanted to they could just give everyone No Matches right past the deadline but instead they do a lot of nice things to help people out, whether it be the coin toss or the extension.

Things might not have gone your way this time but life is sometimes like that. Don't worry so much about it. This is still the best tennis gaming (maybe gaming altogether) community out there and the hosts and managers are some of the coolest dudes you will ever find.
