single most satisfying win in top spin?

Postby el duuderino » Wed, 30 Mar 2011 18:04

at first, i was simply going to start a thread about how great of a match i just had, but instead of 'ONLY' doing that, i also thought it was kind of a good thread topic in general as well.

so what is your singular most satisfying win in top spin? it could be from any of the topspin series also. i had some great matches back in the day of top spin 1 on the original xbox, but noone came close to the match i just finished. i think this also goes along with some of the topics concerning monster setups also.

i just ran into a guy online named Tartiflette30 playing with a character named va chercher. i believe he may be in fact french also (i say this as i proudly listen to north american scum play in the background)
his character setup is ridiculously one sided, and i was amazed at the results. his character had 90+ power, 90+ forehand, 90+ serve, and 40 speed. i couldn't believe how powerful and FAST his character was, he got to almost every shot, i was in shock. he had a beastly serve and could sit on a flat shot nearly every time. the depth on his slices and the angle he could generate with a 71 backhand was crazy.
thankfully for my sanity and my controller, i was able to come back from a 3rd set tie break deficit on his serve and grab my most satisfying win in memory.

the end stats of the match were 42 points for va chercher, 44 for el duuderino, 39 winners each, 2 unforced errors each, and i won the third tie break 10-8. i nearly collapsed in joy afterwards, well, my character did anyway, what a great freakin video game...

edit: wow, i actually had to edit this once i saw his characters actual stats again. forehand 90, backhand 61, serve 91, power 100 !!! speed 40. 20 offensive baseline play, 0 and 0 in the other categories. diesel hard hitter attribute makes it almost unreal how hard and fast he hits.

I don't remember which one anymore, but my favorite matches were some of the 5 set marathon ITST wins I had back on TS2. I guess it would have to be my first grand slam win in the Australian Open 2008 when I came back from 0-6 4-6 down to beat Tidus1 in the finals.

But I also had some epic 5 setters with Retos.

My favourite wins were 2 marathon comebacks with fed on ts3. One was against a guy called MaX_ with his 'kimi raikkonen' character, i won 6-1 6-7 4-6 7-6 7-6, both having MP in the final tie break. But the best comeback (and win) ive had was against a player called reremeyer, in which i came back from 4-6 2-6 and 2-6 down in the 3rd set tiebreak to win 4-6 2-6 7-6 6-4 6-4. In my whole Ts3 career i only ever lost 1 match that went to 5 sets

My run to the US Open final last year with 5 set epic wins over Zizou and Billvall. Given my awful slam record, I never thought I would be in the final of one so it was very nice 8)

Beating Djarvik in TS3 in a tour final was my most satisfying win by a mile, I had never been close before and somehow I managed to stay with him and snatch victory in 3 tiebreaks. I have never been as nervous towards the end of a match as I was in that one, and I was praying the connection would hold.

There was some great competition back then on TS3 in late 2009.

Beating NarcissusCaesar in TS2 women's right after he said "I am unbeatable" or 'Nobody can defeat me" or something like that.

I don't think it was to win a tournament or something, it was just really satisfying because of what he said prior to the match

There's probably others that were way better but that one's memorable..

I'd say my most satisfying win so far was in the quarter-finals of the French Open in the first season of World Tour.

I was up against a guy who was several levels higher and sure enough he won the first set 3-0 - I could barely get anywhere near his serve and he cruised through it.

I really struggled to hold my serve in my first service game of the second set but just about came through it. He again held serve comfortably to lead 2-1 and then suddenly, out of nowhere, I learnt how to serve more effectively. I'd always used the sticks but now I was getting the ball on the lines and was hitting one or two aces. After an easy hold to make it 2-2 I got a better look at his serve to break and go 3-2 up. I held serve to love or 15 to take the set.

I went 6-2 up in the super tie-break but then let the lead slip to about 6-5. I lead by a point all the way up to 9-8 but he saved the match point and did so again next time around. I finally clinched it at 13-11.

It wasn't my best performance by any stretch but the way I came back after being totally outplayed in the first set was really satisfying. The way the momentum suddenly shifted during that second set was great and is what makes Top Spin the best tennis series out there imo.
