Improvements for Topspin 4

Postby Baghdad Baghdatis » Mon, 29 Jun 2009 15:26

Whilst TS3 is a class game, as a tennis fan and player of the actual game I would like to see the following improvements...

1) Ball boys
2) More obvious legends (like sampras, agassi)
3) The real wimbledon venue!
4) Perhaps a dive option (perhaps using the analog pad, not like virtua tennis that does it in all points and annoys the f** out of me)
5) Get rid of the glitches like behing allowed to stand on the service line to return serve (re the World tour) & discconnectors should loose the match

Any thoughts?

1:I rather see ball girls like the ones from Spain.
2:true , altough let's not statr this debate again.
3:ok
4:nooo dive , please , the dives never work in real life (well maybe once in a while) I would only support this if they give your player a 20% chance of breaking a bone and not being able to play anymore.
5:yes this is unrealistic , you could in theory stand on the serve line and return a very hard serve , but it is considered unsportmanship like conduct , besides I doubt you could do anything but block the ballback.

I offered my suggestions before. Hopefully, this can get moved to the area where TS 4 was discussed?

1) Ball boys

Would be nice, but has no effect on the actual gameplay. I would rather see efforts focused elsewhere.

2) More obvious legends (like sampras, agassi)

Again, would be nice. But it takes money, and I don't think 2K has that kind of extra cash to spend on a tennis game.

3) The real wimbledon venue!

I think EA has exclusive rights. It'll probably be years until we see Wimbledon in another game again.

4) Perhaps a dive option (perhaps using the analog pad, not like virtua tennis that does it in all points and annoys the f** out of me)

This could be automatic at the net and I'd be OK with that - assuming that the success rate was low.

5) Get rid of the glitches like being allowed to stand on the service line to return serve (re the World tour) & discconnectors should loose the match

I think you should be allowed to stand on the service line if you want. But it should be 10000X harder and I want to be able to hit them with my serve.

1- not important for me
2- yes .but i will see legends like arthur ash -lacoste -nastase - lendl
3- definitif i will. but ts series had not the rights for orginal wimbledon
4- no diver.I love the becker hecht.but also not the becker hecht ( ANYBODY KNOW IT?) in the topspin series
5- i think its better when its generelly not allowed to go infield by 1 serve . only possible to go infield by 2 serve. with a better balanced first/second serve

I posted in official 2k sports forum:

-Possibility to play matches between created players.
-Award ceremonies.
-Possibility that players may be injured (especially if they lack of stamina in overstraining).
-Movements of ball boys.
-Hawk eye.
-Ability to create more than four players.
-More player accessories (wristbands, hairbands...)
-Possibility to change the colours of the clothes.
-Doubles competitions, also online.
-Possibility of broadcaster.
-Animation of the players entering the stadium.
-Remove the tiebreak in the fifth set.
-Downloadable Content.
-Keep the Top Spin 3 (PAM Dev.) gameplay mechanics.

I want to add the possibility to create "stat-70 players" without having to play the career mode.

i'd like a bigger difference in court surfaces. the diferences in ts3 are pretty much cosmetic, clay takes topspin slightly better, grass is a little lower for slice etc but not drastically.

On that note: Movement for different surfaces. More, way more sliding on clay, especially sliding into and after the shot while on the dead run for ball in the corner.

Make shots go out.

It's way to easy to hit regular shots in. That goes for serve, and all the groundies.

They either should be less effective or just as hard as risk to hit.

I like the way counter footing works. But at the moment it's all a little to extreme. I am an athlete myself And find it rather plainfull to see how clumpsy players move.

The whole moving with LB and appraching with RB ad hitting with RB ( which makes your shots a little harder hit) is just too acrade to me. Nothing to do with tennis.

I suggest a little better movement. But harder to hit good shots. And when it's harder to hit shots I also mean that you need to really be in positio to hit a good shots. Not just hit the Aor B buttons 3 meters away and stiff get a good powerfull shot.

And more control over the placement of the shot. But that should be normal if shots will go out easier. If not it will be a mess.

The RB is great the way they made it for approaching the net - I don't see any other way of moving forward through your shot as long as the aiming and movement are controlled by the same stick. I think extra power you gain is a glitch, and probably would have been patched if it was discovered while the game still had some support from 2K.

The LB wouldn't be so bad if it the stamina mattered more, and it affected your stamina more. But it wouldn't even be necessary if the movement took better advantage of the analog capabilities. Think Mario 64; tilt it slightly to walk, tilt it all the way to run - almost 15 years later and they still haven't equaled that in a tennis game.

Rob, I have the N64 emulator for Mario Tennis. I have not noticed the LB or analog stick feature you are talking about. You think it is because of the emulator?
