No, I agree with you, it seems about every other thread in the TS4 section is about something that is cheesy or something that is wrong with the game. It is getting a bit annoying

Here is my opinion - worth about as much as anyone else's I guess.

The reason I like ITST is that it sets rules to make the game more enjoyable for some people. In TS1 and 2 it was the cheese wide out serves that made the game unenjoyable for me, for example. Sure it was a part of the game and you could overcome it sometimes, but it just wasn't FUN.

If you want to say 'To hell with that, if it's in the game then it's legal' - why not just play random matches? That's not the point of ITST as I understood it when I joined years ago.

Everybody has a different idea of fun.

Besides, ask an ATP pro to describe what it's like playing these intense matches week after week, and I kinda doubt 'fun' is gonna be one of the adjectives used.

Agreed.

But for each version of the game there have been elements of "legal" gameplay that were outlawed from ITST play. I thought the idea of this discussion was to talk about these choices.. some people here act like they don't want to hear anyone else's opinions.

I agree with Jaylove's view for the site. It is a place where skilled tennis gamers can come and compete. THAT needs to be the primary focus. With the setup of the ITST we are able to get rid of hackers and cheaters, and get for the most part a ranking structure that cannot be tampered with and finds out who are the best players of that game.

From time to time, in order to promote decent competition though, rules need to be made. This is done if it becomes clear that a certain tactic is ruining the competitive nature of the game (turning the game into primarily who can use this one tactic and defend against it the best). The rules for the regular tour are not used to primarily create a tour that necessarily copies real life tennis. If the regular game with any imposed rules does not follow real tennis closely enough, that may mean we will create a SIM tour.

So yes, please don't ask for a rule just because it isn't realistic or it is annoying. It's just not going to happen. Definitely feel free to discuss tactics you find annoying or that maybe should be patched up a bit, but we should only be making rules for ITST play when the developers are done patching the game and it is very obvious the rule is needed.

I don't really remember any "cheese" elements of previous versions ever getting patched out. Perhaps I missed it?

Top Spin 3 did have one patch up job. The restricted how far servers could move outwide, and made the kick serve less effective. I think there were a few other small adjustments as well.

Didn't TS2 have some patch for the empty momentum shots?

I guess that actually falls under the "glitch" category; you were talking about cheese.
