i just played a guy in a tournament online, he had an 87 serve and he was 15-1...so he couldnt of been terrible....and i beat him 3-0, 3-1 with my defensive baseliner...we'll see though, maybe nickz is way better

Well I think the first serves are good as they are but the second serves could get a bit tweaked.
For instance, to feel the pressure of the second serve the camera would be shaking and you have to hit a perfect or good timing in order to get the service in (with the stick serve), or else, to be safer use the button serve, a slower serve but safer as the second serve should be.

So the player has the opportunity to risk a second serve knowing that the odds are lower due to pressure or hit a safer second serve with the buttons

After playing another guy with a ton on serve and power but only like 50 on speed.....

1. i think the serve is overpoewred, was aced like 8 times in 4 service games...
2. i think it is very easy to beat someone like this because any point that is not an ace they are at a major disadvantage

If anyone can already make 90% serves, with power and accuracy, then serving is WAY too easy.

Have you tried to do a slice return?
I just beat a Roddick with Lendel 3-0, 3-1 and he had a fast serve, but I just continued slicing and the guy had terrible vision so it was pretty easy to rally with him :P[/code]

I abuse slicing, return and strokes, with my def baseliner and karlovic, but even still big serving is really effective. You can get aced left and right, add that to the fact that the recovery on trying to return the ball, slice/flat out wide I'm looking at you, is so long, and it pretty much gives them an open court to hit to.

The good thing like mike said is that these guys are usually really slow. If they don't ace you or their serve doesn't put you in a bad position right off the bat then you can give them trouble.
It's also really easy to hold serve against them. The main problem comes in the tie break when they win a point off your serve to take the lead.

Yeah, everybody has their weaknesses, even big power servers :P
Lol I just beat Nadal with Lendel in 2K Open, the guy was dropshoting from the baseline almost! His slice serve was annoying too, he went over the baseline every time on my service games! I decided to do the same and won 4-3, 3-1 :P

Try a defensive block by tapping slice, ala federer. It will work great against everyone but serve and volleyers

Was just reading this and came to wonder:

Does the Shot Counter work with serves aswell? Or is there a Serve Counter skill?

I am still at lvl 17 and when i play online i chose coaches that i didnt unlock special attributes to avoid losing more time.
So i may not be in a good position to make judgement yet but my impressions are not good regarding the so-called much improved balance of the game.
I only lost 1 match yet but even those i won felt extremely awkward. The serve in this game is a joke. If your opponent has good serve stats then it's Aces party. I am ok to be aced sometimes against good servers but an average of 3 aces per game is a bit much. Especially when i anticipate the location of the serve and input the direction for my character and he just doesnt move. Its not like i wasnt quick enough to get there it is just like my character fell asleep. And when the guy is out of prozac and finally decide to move his *** you get a weak return and get exposed to an easy winner.`

Against "normal" people this is easy to handle but if you play someone like an ITST regular who is remotely good then it is very difficult to handle and moreover the match plainly suck. Even those matches i won i almost had no pleasure playing them.

It is like when you are having a 45 shots rally, ok it can feel good for the first 20 strokes (!) but then it gets old and especially frustrating that when you are finally in good position to hit a winner and i decide to hit a long line (bad decision most of the time) and the ball is going to the middle of the court... wtf? yeah you can say that maybe i suck at this game and still didnt "get" it but some parts of it are really OFF compared to real tennis (and i know what i am talking about in real tennis).

One of the problem comes from the way the character is positioning to hit the ball. In TS3 you could still ADJUST before hiting (it wasnt great but you could still adjust a bit), now in TS4 the player is stuck, waiting to hit the ball. You can't adjust a bit to the side or maybe go a bit more forward. No. The only thing is sometimes you can step back before hitting. I noticed that sometimes the character will "unstuck" if you press RB but then he just fly to the net so most of the times it is only good to use if you want to volley.
I kept the timing helpers for the first few days and the problem also rise when i want to hit the ball on the rise so either i tap or release early but the character dont hit the ball he waits, then you have a weak shot and the "too soon" displayed. Ah! Its not what i wanted to do.
And dont get me started on anticipating shots and "slightly" go to one direction then you want to go the opposite way. Then your character slowly starts to go the first direction while you are already pressing the opposite for 1 second!
I didnt want to sound like i am ranting... well maybe i am. I love the game but i am really disapointed by these details i talked about and disapointed by online matches for now because of this. And lag is worse than in TS3... maybe because of their servers i dont know.
I will upgrade my player to lvl20 and get some gold coaches attributes, hoping that will change something. :x

I'm pretty sure you can still at least adjust forward or backward if you're charging up a shot...I know I've been charging a shot and it's really far in front of me and I've had to run up to the ball.

Just played in the 2k open with federer against a roddick... god DAMN. when i first started i could not believe the speed and power, it was just mental. luckily the guy was kinda poor at returning and not the best accuracy so i managed to win 4-3 3-1.

I agree. It seems to not be as bad if you do a pre-press return. But when you try a control return your guy really doesn't do any sort of reaction against good servers.
