I think woz being no.1 says a lot, I mean she not a bad player but nothing special which the no.1 player should be.

Ranking points award consistency. She is one of the most consistent players on the WTA tour ever. Not to mention her serve and backhand are actual weapons for her.

It's just that forehand.......

Plus the 2nd serve and the volley are hardly of more than an average standard

She not bad and I think defence wise she is no.1. However she just feels so passive, and jsut keeps returning balls until opponent misses or she can make some passing shot.

It not her fault but I think in womens tennis grandslams score less than in mens game so players like woz can become no.1 more easily now she is most consistant across the toour hence why no.1 but it just seems like "is this the best in wta" for me personally. I've never had doubts in mens game when a player become no.1 because they need to do a combination of doing well in slams and doing well outside slam.

Lucky for woz she can practically walk into semi's after kuz-francesco match. (unless francesco has an amazing recovery)

I feel the glory days of the WTA were in the late mid to late 90's early 2000's. Hingis, Graf, Davenport, Capriati, Sanchez-Vicario, Williamsx2, Pierce (I miss Mary  ), the list goes on and those years were awesome to watch! ...omg I almost forgot Seles

The game is changing now and it's interesting to see who's gonna emerge on the top of the women's game. I feel Petkovic, Kvitova, Kanepi, among others are real favorites to be grand slam contenders. But for now the WTA can relish the days of multiple slam winners in the quarterfinals and semis...

thats true. Heres a question, which female player do you think is the best volleyer? talking singles top 50ish, not like liezel huber, who is good but not a top player (in singles).

I'm goin with Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez (Gonzalez Lopez Garcia). She's #29 and she's ALWAYS at the net lol. Notably, Petrova and Huber are in the Aussie SF in doubles... so I'm guessing Petrova has good net skills too although she doesn't use them that much in singles.

Based solely on volleys probably Martinez Sanchez, she's a serve and volleyer (which is why she's ranked so low to be honest), but Hantuchova, Jankovic and Radwanska are the other best volleyers IMO.

Stosur volleys well and has been no.1 but I'd say Schiavone has some awesome net skills

Yeah I totally agree with this. I used to love watching women's tennis because there were always really cool matchups between big names players happening towards the ends of tournaments. Now I just feel utterly bored. I just don't feel like Li Na / Wozniaki semis live up to the hype that they try to give to them. oh well, maybe when these players become more entrenched in the game it will seem more exciting. But I remember women's tennis being really dynamic with a lot of different styles of play floating around. Now it seems really mundane, the women's game is more and more just looking like the men's game, only a lot slower and without a lot of flair.
