WT Players: Super Tiebreaks - Yay or Nay?

Postby dsavbeast012 » Thu, 09 Jun 2011 20:09

Nothing worse than playing a close match, 1 set all, and having to go to the 'stupid' tiebreak to decide the match. I don't like it, just let us play out the 3rd set as is, if it goes to a regular 3rd set TB so be it, but I hate the Super Tiebreak and always have. Anyone else feel the same way?

I don't care for them much in Topspin or in real life league play. I just don't feel that it really defines who the better player is that day. It's just too easy to play a bad point or 2 and you end up losing the entire match because of it.

Of course the argument to that is that if you are the better player then you should be able to focus and execute in a high stress situation.

I would always rather play a full 3rd set personally.

Yea I just had another one against someguy ranked 40 WT. I took 1st set 3-0 he took 2nd set 4-3 then won tiebreak 10-1. I had a 2 double faults on perfect timing serves without aiming the 2nd serve. And he had like 4 points that hit the net. It whatever. Just sucks a good match has to end in a tiebreak format...

Love them. Couple of days ago i even came back from 9-4 to win super tiebreak with 11-9.
Just play with your head in them, built up an certain pattern and after three points on his serve or something do completely the upposite. Succes garanteed.

yep that's basically what I do in the super tiebreaks...that's what I do in the game period.

I always take mental note of how many times I"ve done something in a match so I know what the other guy is probably expecting me to do

Thats exactly what I do. Even serving. Go one way for awhile then when you need a point go for the ace. Usually gettin 90% of the time to. But I mostly do this going down the line when they think im going cross court.

Yep...that last part...one of my favorite/most effective shots is when somebody has me stretched out to my BH side, I am really good at hitting a deep slice up the line when they least expect it...even though it's not a powerful shot it wrong-foots the other guy the majority of the time and completely turns the point around

I will hit it cross court the 1st couple times it happens even if it costs me a couple points...then when it happens on a big point I go up the line 8) Or cross-court, depening on what pattern I've established...

Just lost another 2 matches on this...lost 3-4, 4-0, 10-6. He never brokemy serve i broke twice. Such a fluky system. Always let the match play out...would be like having a free throw contest decide NBA 2K11 instead of OT. For online at least please 2k get rid of STB for WT in TS5.

I sincerely hate the super-tiebreak but I also don't really feel like I've ever lost to a worse player just because of the super-tiebreak.

I just find it anticlimactic, not necessarily unbalanced or anything...I mean, both players are aware of how many points you need to win to win the supertiebreak. So it's not like it's unfair. It's just kinda stupid and has nothing to do with pro tennis

It's not a very good way to end it. It feels like a different match from the one you've played for the previous two sets. It's a bit like a shootout in hockey. Sure, it requires skill just the same as the rest of the game but it has an added flavor of luck. One bad point and you're done.

Losing the whole match due to 2nd serve that somehow hits the net, a 'good' return to a serve or even a 'perfect' shot that goes out might seem unfair when you've broken his serve more times during the match than opposition has.

Sure, third set might end in a tiebreak as well but having a third set would increase the chances of not having a tiebreaker to end it.
