Cheesy?

Postby Rich Lewis » Mon, 28 Mar 2011 13:26

A couple of days ago I had a very close match with Moreau which I eventually won. After the match he messaged me complaining that I had received the ball from inside the baseline. He suggested that by doing this he was unable to get angle on his serves/shots? He also suggested that this was a bug in the game which I was exploiting.

I am obviously very keen not to ever play in a way which is considered exploitative or cheesy by the majority of players. Having said that I can't think why the programming for serve placement could be affected by where the receiver stands. I only stand just inside the baseline and then guess where the serve is going to go. This makes no sense to me. He insinuated it was a known fault. Is this the case? :?

in TS3 it was a glitch that meant you could return serve amazingly well inside the baseline, on ts4 im not sure. If he is rolling in serves at 78 MPH and you are standing inside the baseline to return then its his own fault for such poor serving. However if he is hitting fast serves that are accurate and you are batting them back just as easy then its unfair in my opinion.

i see at moment no advandage to return inside the baseline.

mean in TS3 i agree ,that there was a problem with inside returning .

in TS4 i can´´t see anything wrong with inside returning ,mean at all its harder to return a power server when you return from inside the baseline.

or had something else made different experiences with inside returning in TS4?

Yeah, returning from inside is actually disadvantage now. I still see some WT guys try it, but they get burned 9 out of 10 times.

I haven't faced anyone returning from inside the baseline, that means it doesn't work this time.
It's true that i find myself inside or stepping the line sometimes, not on purpose though

sometimes its smart to stand on or inside the baseline if they are constantly slicing the serve out wide. You can cut off the angle and slice it back up the line allowing you to play the point. Not cheesy in my opinion. It also subjects you to getting aced on hard up the T serves as your reflexes are tested on this.

I quite often have to back up a bit if the guy has a really big serve or has the sense to push it deep. Especially if they has serve berserker. I alter my position depending on my opponents serve style. I have not noticed any glitch or additional power by crossing the baseline. Thanks for your feedback.

On WT, practically everyone I have played stands inside the baseline (old TS3 habits apparently die hard). Even against me though, no real advantage.

is 3 dropshots in a match cheesy? Some guys seem to think dropshots are going against tennis religion or something.
Seems I can't cross that threshold just yet :(

Drop shots aren't cheesy as long as they are hit it the right place in the right way, like if you have your opponent miles behind the baseline hitting him around but cant put the away, and they hit the ball short, and hit s drop shot, you could hit a hundred of these and it wouldn't be cheesy.

However if you serve then drop shot or hit drop shot winners off 100 mph flat shots then its cheesy

It's not realistic, but not realistic doesn't automatically imply cheesy. In my opinion, I would say drop shots are not cheesy at all in TS4. You should be able to hit as many as you would like.

I was playing this guy, who drop shotted a lot, mostly cause I was far behind the baseline, but occasionally he just did it randomly in the middle of the point. I think he musta hit around 10 in the first set and a half(WT grand slam match). What I did, is started hitting drop shots randomly, and he stopped after a while. I won this match, though.

Not cheesy but generally unless you can time your top spin return "perfect" everytime, standing inside baseline gives you more consistent return.
